What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Riva Ridge...

Riva Ridge was the horse that got me interested in horse racing. To this day, he is still my all-time favorite. This is the story of my love affair with the “other” big, beautiful stallion from Meadow Stable.Read More

The best thing in "Secretariat," the new movie from Walt Disney Pictures, is John Malkovich. His wardrobe is out of Spike Jones and his part is supposed to be Lucien Laurin, Secretariat's tight-lipped trainer, but the way the role is written, Malkovich could just as well be Wayne Lukas. He's got a c...Read More

  • bigfootmauler · one thing you have to remember you guys.. this was a movie.. based on a true story. its going to be glorified to fit "tv" standards. somethings are going to be overly done, others overlooked. if penny said the movie was pretty much flawless.. gotta get over it. · 75 days ago ·

RIVA was the one who saved the farm. without Riva Secretariat might not have become who he had been. Why don't you look more into Riva. I know Secretariat was great, and showed he was better than Riva, Riva still showed the huge heart of a racehorse and he too should be considered with greats of all time.

  • likin sparks · Riva was great but many don't know that there were other factors involved in saving the farm. After Casey Haines the long time trainer for the Chenery's gave up on the farm and was fired by Penny, Roger Laurin, son of Secretariat's trainer Lucien Laurin helped get the farm back on it's feet by cutting costs and establishing profit. He was soon to except a better offer and leave the farm then his father took over as trainer. Another thing Penny mentioned was if her father would have passed away two months earlier before the time leading up tp Secretariat's TC run she would have been forced to sell him. Timing could not have been better. If it wasn't for the 6.08 million breeding syndication for Secretariat it could only make you wonder what else he could have done. · 153 days ago ·

As Disney's "Secretariat" gallops into theaters this weekend, the film provides some fodder for horse racing enthusiasts to nitpick.
