What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Risen Star...

A very good horse. Ranked way too high. The 80 to 100 range sounds closer to reasonable (than the top 40).
  • icyhotboo · I personally don't pay to much attention these ratings. Many people vote the same horse high or low many times. Really not a valid reflection in my opinion. I've seen Secretartiat ranked a #3 out of 10. Zenyatta/Rachel ones, ridiculous. · 90 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · BTW:I've only rated about 20 horse total and suspect that many other members do the same so all horses arv't given appropriate consiseration · 90 days ago ·

  • 12thCrown · I think FG spacing the race as is hurts their chances for top contenders. Very few will wheel back for another race like Nehro did last year. But it's shocking they don't draw better candidates with the $1 million purse! I love visiting that track... can't believe Asmussen is heading west this winter. · 150 days ago ·

  • DeadHeat · 12thCrown I believe he did last year too, with Tapizar. That one got injured though, and was his top horse before Nehro was really ever thought about. · 150 days ago ·

Last spring’s Fair Grounds Oaks winner Daisy Devine proved she could transfer her abilities to the local grassy going by winning the 25th renewal of the $75,000 Pago Hop Stakes by 2 1/4-lengths over the newly-reconditioned Stall-Wilson turf course at the Crescent City oval on Saturday.   The da...Read More
Chalk this one up as a great idea. On Saturday, November 26, the Fair Grounds will run a race featuring contemporary horses competing in the names and silks of many of the greatest horses to compete at the historic racetrack. Now on this very blog I have created and run some terrific fantasy races, ...Read More

  • likin sparks · Woo wee! This is a cool idea...my picks would be on a trifecta Whirlaway/Master Derby/Tenacious all three totally dominated at the Fair Grounds and of course my sleeper would be Risen Star and plug him into WPS, loved that horse. · 191 days ago ·

His career was too short, but fantastic runner. Not quite sure he should be this high.

  • Protagonist · Larry I need to correct myself, in that it wasn't Lady's Secret that Risen Star ran against ,but Winniing Colors when she won the Derby in 1988. and for Ramon Dimas s' info speaking of great fillies of the past as you do above this listing you might want to look up one of the best years for fillies and mares at the BC look up 1988. What a race you have Winning Colors, Goodbye Halo and Personal Ensign! What a TREmendous Preformance Personal Ensign gave that day ,in the slop,at Churchill Downs! INcredible,Sensational, Wow! are the best words in the English language that describe what Personal Ensign did that day. · 250 days ago ·

  • mdracing69 · Codex intimidating Genuine Risk was vintage Cordero and is definitely one ride I won't forget. I was a young boy watching my first Preakness in 1980 and my mom bet $2 on Genuine Risk for me. I am still mad at that bully Cordero, lol. · 752 days ago ·
