Older Comments about Ridan...

Still my favorite. I never found a copy of the Florida Derby race against Cicada but I am always looking. I wasn't old enough to go to the track but a neighbor who was a night watchman let see him one night. I later got to see him at Claiborne Farm
Another decent colt is not in the Hall Of Fame, and no where near worthy of this high a ranking.

  • AllenJoyner · I remember watching the 1962 Florida Derby...when Ridan beat Cicada by a nose. The game little filly was on the inside, and Ridan, on the outside was so much bigger it was hard to see Cicada at all. Great race. · 908 days ago
I spend at least 10 minutes everyday looking for Ridan photos on line. My two favorite photos were in SI from years ago. One from the Flamingo Stks and the other is the Bluegrass stakes. I have found about 20 that I have purchased over the last 5 years
I've edited races before but I can't seem to get there now. If anyone can the time of the 1962 Travers Stakes should be 2:01.3
Ridan was one of my favorites back then. I taped the Travers on my old primitive tape recorder that year not knowing that the race would be such a classic.
ridan was the horse i loved most when i watch racing in the 60s. he was my dream horse.
