What the Nation is saying about Richard's Kid...

Is Richard's Kid been retired or what? I havent heard about him since his Dubai World Cup race
Nineteen up, nineteen down. Zenyatta has done it all. Her quest for a pair of perfect 10s comes in a few weeks at Churchill Downs with the world watching in the Breeders' Cup Classic. But there is an undeniable question standing in her way to 20 consecutive victories -- the competition. Even the mos...Read More

Victories in the Oceanside Stakes and Del Mar Derby led to Twirling Candy being voted the  top 3-year-old male of the 2010 Del Mar meeting. A year older, with six more races of experience and under partially new ownership, Twirling Candy appears likely to be the only meet champion returning to ...Read More
The 2011 edition of the Dubal World Cup ended up being a showcase for Japan as horses from that ailing country took the top two spots with Victoire Pisa and Transcend. • medlocke · This year's Dubai World Cup really served to remind me how much I truly miss the race being run on the conventional dirt at Nad Al Sheba. Victoire Pisa had to come 5 or 6 wide to forge to the front early just to inject any pace at all into the race, as it was run at a terrible dottle. That move turned out to be the best tactical move of the race. As Victoire Pisa took the lead and never looked back. · 313 days ago ·

Satish Seemar hopes RICHARD’S KID will put it together and wasn’t entirely surprised, or upset, with his colt’s first run off the layoff when eighth in the Maktoum Challenge – Round 3 (G2) on Super Thursday.  While hoping for an improvement in the Dubai World Cup, the long-time Dubai-based trai...Read More

At $10 Million the Dubai World Cup is the richest race in the world, so it can be no surprise when many of the best horses from all over the world flock to the Middle East to contest the ten furlong race contested over Meydan‘s Tapeta surface. • peteclara · What's happened with Richard's Kid? They pulled him out of the Breeders Cup Classic, supposedly for this race. Is there something wrong with him or something wrong with his owners? And why did they take him away from Baffert? He was doing a great job with Richard's Kid. · 359 days ago ·

  • medlocke · I think a new era had began for the Dubai World Cup in 2010 at Meydan. What happened in 2010, I fear, will now be likely in many Dubai World Cup's to follow. Horses that show up early for the carnival and get two or three run's under their belt on Meydan's tapeta surface will be more of a factor in deciding the outcome of the Dubai World Cup than horses that ship all the way to Dubai for just that one race. Take last year's DWC for example. Gloria De Campeao, Lizard's Desire, and Allybar ran #1,2, 3. All three of those horses showed up at the beginning of the carnival and ran well in handicaps prior to DWC night. Gio Ponti's 4th place finish, and Mastery's 5th place finish were best among the shippers. I personally think this year is likely to be very much the same. Mike De Kock already has 3 likely starters for the DWC that are burning the tapeta up. Bold Silvano, winner of the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 2, Musir, 2nd in the Firebreak Stakes and winner of last year's UAE 2000 Guineas and Derby, and Golden Sword who has one win and one place at this year's carnival. Then there's Godolphin's Mendip. Who won the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 1, and took 2 races on the tapeta last season. He really look's the kind of horse that could be a big player in this year's DWC to me. Gitano Hernando finished 6th in last year's DWC, and 5th in this year's Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 2. But he's had troubled trips in both races, and is an outstanding synthetic surface horse. That's why I believe Gio Ponti's connection's should already have him in Dubai preparing to prep in the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 3 instead of in the U.S. prepping on turf. JMO. · 351 days ago ·

Is this guy getting a prep for the World Cup. I havn't heard any recent activity on him, anybody know if he's working at Meydan?
is he in dubai yet?
It’s hard to believe we’re almost there. Monday, Oct. 25, is pre-entries day, and then we can dissect the plethora of Breeders’ Cup races in earnest. You better ingest what follows quickly, because you can bet it’s going to change by the minute, as was the case with our rundown of the Nov. 6 races a...Read More
Richard's Kid will not run in the Breeders' Cup Classic. He will spend the winter in Dubai. Read More
  • medlocke · Richard's Kid is really good form right now. Having won back to back G1 victories in the Pacific Classic and the Goodwood Stakes. That said, you can't really blame Bob Baffert for not wanting to race Richard's Kid on conventional dirt at Churchill Downs. Richard's Kid has only two lifetime starts on the surface. Both of them in 2009. A well beaten 6th at the Louisiana Fair Grounds to Macho Again in the 2009 New Orleans Handicap. And a well beaten 4th behind No Advantage at Pimlico in the 2009 William Donald Schaeffer Stakes. Baffert has decided to go all or nothing with Lookin At Lucky in this year's Classic. Which I think is a smart move on his part. But Baffert was recently quoted at a luncheon with some members of the thoroughbred industry, the quote carried on DRF.com's web-site about a month ago. Baffert's quote: " Lookin At Lucky is the best colt I have to throw at Zenyatta on the dirt at Churchill Downs, and I'm not even sure he's good enough to beat her." Close quote. · 471 days ago ·

Bob Baffert, talking from California on Monday, hopes he’s the bad guy on Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs.  The Hall of Fame trainer hopes he has the horse to bring down the mighty Zenyatta in the Classic. Actually, Baffert could have two in there. The more formidable one would be Lookin At Lucky, wh...Read More

Zenyatta ran down a game Switch to win the Grade 1 Lady's Secret at Hollywood Park on Saturday. Read More

  • medlocke · To start with, Switch is not just an ordinary filly that Zenyatta so often gets accused of racing. I think most people consider Blind Luck one of, it not the best 3yr.old filly in America. She'll likely be favorite for the Breeders Cup Ladies Classic. This is the same Switch that beat Blind Luck in the G2 Hollywood Oaks back in June. I'm just curious if anyone besides myself noticed what happened to Zenyatta when she cornered the final turn in the Lady's Secret yesterday? She crossed over to her left lead to go around the turn just fine. But when she straightened out, she got completely off of her correct lead. She went about 3 strides with both front legs out in front of her at the same time. If you'll watch the replay, Mike Smith immediately corrects this by slapping Zenyatta at the top of her right leg, getting her back in stride on the correct lead. She then ran down Switch with just under a furlong left. Incredible. There's not a horse racing anywhere in the world that Zenyatta can't reach down and grab a gear for to run down. IMO. · 488 days ago ·

  • mdracing69 · I have always liked Switch. I played her in the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager and am glad to see her performing well in the Graded ranks. As for Blind Luck, note that she was nominated to the Lady's Secret but did not want anything to do with Zenyatta so she skipped town and ran 2nd in Saturday's G2 Cotillion in PA. · 488 days ago ·
