What the Nation is saying about Reckless Abandon...

Three-year old Reckless Abandon, a Group 1 winner in England and France, has been retired and will stand the 2014 breeding season at Darley's Kildangan Stud in Co. Kildare, Ireland. A fee has yet to be announced.
Reckless Abandon is reported to be lame and has been scratched from Saturday's G1 Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock.
  • ILuvTurfRacing · Kingsgate Native a scratch in the Sprint Cup now, also. Kind of surprised at his being scratched given how well he ran at Haydock when he won the G2 Temple Stakes back in May. · 223 days ago ·
Sprinting isn't something us British have been particularly good at in the past. We enjoy it, and our attempts at soaring towards the top are most certainly commendable, but we ultimately flounder as our athletes are transformed into trees rooted to the spot by nations whom continue to transform com...Read More
Reckless Abandon suffered his first career loss today at Haydock in the G2 Temple Stakes, finishing 3rd behind Kingsgate Native in 1st and Swiss Spirit in 2nd.
  • yukichan · Good for the old guy, Kingsgate Native. When he's on, he's really on. I thought RA had it, only to be consumed by KN and Swiss Spirit at the end. It's hard to not feel happy for this 8 year old gelding and his connections. · 327 days ago ·
  • ILuvTurfRacing · @yukichan, I agree. I've also been a fan of Kingsgate Native. He's ran well throughout his career at Haydock Park, and after that big effort over Guineas weekend in the G3 Palace House Stakes where he finished 2nd, closing hard at Sole Power, I had a hunch he might run a big race in the Temple Stakes. · 327 days ago ·
Saturday's G2 Temple Stakes at Haydock should tell us alot about how Reckless Abandon will fare at Ascot in the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes and/or the G1 King's Stand Stakes next month during the royal meeting. Reckless Abandon puts his unbeaten record on the line at Haydock against older horses for the first time, some of them proven G1 sprinters like Tangerine Trees, Sole Power, & Maarek.

  • travel_vic · this is a GREAT horse name · 327 days ago ·
  • travel_vic · don't know how many 3 y/o sprinters I can name who handed older their collective heads...Very Subtle over Groovy, ring a bell? · 327 days ago ·
Quirky he may be, but he also holds talent in abundance; Reckless Abandon defended his unbeaten record in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket with a display of sheer heart and determination as he battled back to deny Moohaajim in the shadows of the post to win going away.Read More

  • kingpin.akpofureott · The talent that is this Exchange Rate colt is set to be unleashed at Ascot's' Royal meeting in June? Bring it on! Exciting times ahead · 372 days ago ·
  • On The Gallop's · He dosen't like to be passed that's for sure. A tremendous fighting spirit. I don't see him having a problem going past 7f. Time will only tell. · 370 days ago ·
Speaking to the Racing Post web-site about 12 hours ago, trainer Clive Cox announced a very ambitious beginning to the unbeaten Reckless Abandon's 3yo season. Cox told the Racing Post the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Ascot during the royal meeting in June is an obvious place to start, and he'll likely run in the G1 King's Stand Stakes also. Cox said a prep race in the G2 Temple Stakes at Haydock is likely the way he'll go before taking Reckless Abandon to Ascot. Speaking only for myself, I'm happy to hear that Clive Cox is eyeing the 5 & 6f sprint races with Reckless Abandon. There's no question this horse has an electric turn of foot, but I've never gotten the feeling that a tough 8f over the rolly mile at Newmarket in the G1 English 2000 Guineas would've suited him. Hats off to Cox for taking this colt in the direction he needs to go!!
Awesome horse.
  • UnionRagsRules · pretty awesome should I say · 523 days ago ·
  • northport · I'm excited to see if he and dawn approach ever meet up during their careers. Godolphin/Darley has a nice looking chance at the classics next year · 523 days ago ·
Hi everyone, we're exactly 2 weeks out from the Breeders' Cup World Championships being held at Santa Anita on Friday, November 2nd, and Saturday, November 3rd. Trackman has returned with another preview look at the $500,000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Sprint, which is entering into its second year of ex...Read More
  • BrianZipse · It seems this field is the most transient of any BC field right now ... the folks at Stonestreet seemed less than keen about it for Katie when I visited on Sunday. Reckless Abandon has the free entry, but Dan Munn says he's not coming. If Beholder picks this over the Juvenile Fillies, she might be the one to beat. · 545 days ago ·
Keeps his unbeaten record in tact by winning the G1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.
  • ILuvTurfRacing · Reckless Abandon had to work really hard to get this win. His Middle Park Stakes victory didn't come nearly as easy as Dawn Approach's Dewhurst Stakes victory came for him. He was sternly challenged by both Moohaajim and Gale Force Ten who hit the wire right with Reckless Abandon. The official winning margin a neck between Reckless Abandon and Moohaajim, and a neck between Moohaajim and Gale Force Ten. · 551 days ago ·
  • CreativeCause · wow it looked like he wasn't going to make it · 550 days ago ·
A duo of undefeated records go on the line on Saturday at Newmarket's Future Champions Day. Dawn Approach and Reckless Abandon have both defeated everything in their paths and look to end their season on notable highs with Group 1 victories.Read More
Middle Park Stakes next up for this star. This will be the 'acid test'
The unbeaten winner of the G2 Norfolk Stakes, G2 Prix Robert Papin, and G1 Prix Morny has been sold to Darley, but will remain with trainer Clive Cox until the end of the 2013 season according a story on the Racing Post web-site. Since Sheikh Mohammed is the primary owner of both Darley and Godolphin, my hunch is that he'll eventually end up with Dawn Approach in Godolphin blue.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @northport, the story on Racing Post says he's supposed to stay with current trainer, Clive Cox, until the end of the 2013 season. My hunch is that he may be retired anyway at the end of his 3yr.old season? · 590 days ago ·
  • northport · Yeah, I read that too and assumed as much. I just don't want him to go the either of the main godolphin trainers · 589 days ago ·
4 for 4 this horse can run! Too bad he's in Great Britin, it would be nice to have him here.
Lay great hopes on him
Now a G1 winner! Prix Morny taken down in style today
Can we add him to the undefeated watch?
Brilliant name!
