  • Northport · I know, Buckpasser. While people kept finding more money in breeding unfortunately the consequence of that was stretching the limit of book sizes. If a stallion wants to be a success these days, he has to cover 100 some mares in his first couple years. Even stallions that started in the lower brackets like Malibu Moon and War Front covered over 100 mares their first season. Not to mention operations like WInstar and Coolmore who don't seem to have limits on book sizes · 311 days ago
  • Buckpasser · Yes Northport, you are absolutely right. I remember top breeders like E.R. Bradley would only breed Black Toney 20-25 foals. He felt it was bad to overbreed his stallions and also was concerned about inbreeding. One of things I find ironic is that inspite of the unlimited book size, the foal crop keeps going down. · 311 days ago
