Older Comments about R Heat Lightning...

Multiple graded stakes winner R Heat Lightning is currently in foal to Bernardini.
Why was she retired?
  • Show All 3 Comments
  • Mary Z. · That was April of '11. After missing the Kentucky Oaks(She was the probable favorite.), due to heat in her right knee, she had a chip removed from that knee and recovered at WinStar. Then, in August? of '11, she was shipped to Saratoga along with Uncle Mo, and I think she may have worked out through March of this year, but her recovery was predicted to take much longer than U.M.'s, and I think she just was not able to make a comeback to the track. No factual reports of R Heat Lightning having been bred. · 1292 days ago

I love this horse <3 she is a horse that runs and wins because she wants tooo <3 :D
Have been thinking about one of my favorite fillies...does anyone know if she's back in training or whether she will race again this year?
has been withdrawn from the Oaks.
Todd Pletcher's got himself a real money spinner, and an extremely talented 3yr.old filly in R Heat Lightning!! She just flat out dominated the Gulfstream Oaks. Winning that race by 5 or 6 length's under a hand ride. Really quite impressive. What I like about this filly is that she's finished either 1st or 2nd in seven of eight lifetime starts. Her only out of money finish was when she finished 4th in the G2 Forward Gal Stakes at Gulfstream, but bounced right back off of that loss to win the Davona Dale Stakes and the Gulfstream Oaks. I really believe R Heat Lightning will prove to be the filly to beat in this year's Kentucky Oaks. It also won't surprise come November if she end's up being one of the favorites for this year's B.C. Ladies Classic. JMO.
  • 12 Clip · I'll have to say after that performance she definitely looks like the one to beat. I think it could be a strong race with Plum Pretty, Kathmanblu, Zazu and a few others. But as of now she's strictly the one to beat. · 1855 days ago
Took advantage of a less than stellar ride on Dancinginherdreams, but was impressive none the less.
  • cigar · R Heat Lightning today was winning even if she gave them a two length head start. She was lengths the best. · 1893 days ago
I think this filly is going to be a top contender this year for the oaks. She was a very solid second againt Awesome Feather in the Juvenile Fillies, and in the stretch she was forced onto the the rail which was the dead part of the track. She also switched back to her wrong lead which proabably didn't help things. She may have gave Awesome Feather a bit more of a fight if she had stayed on her correct lead, but I'm not saying that she would have won.
Both sire and damsire are sons of Forty Niner. R Heat Lightning is a full sister to stakes placed Hot Trip. Gold Fever and the second dam The Real Thing descend from the same distaff family, creating a rare Formula One inbreeding.
