What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Pure Clan...

Pure Clan just foaled a Bernardini filly a little over an hour ago. So cute. https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=10151182309111050&set=a.10150775148411050.391260.62777301049&type=1&theater
Just sold i/f to Bernardini for $4.5 million

I don't think we really got to see just how great this Mare could have been....
It is a pity that Pure Clan we no longer will be pleased with its speed and movements...

Pure Clan, who is arguably the top turf female in training, is coming right along in her preparations for her season debut. She worked a bullet five furlongs in 59.60 seconds on dirt at her Oaklawn base last week and remains on schedule for an intended start in the Grade 2, $200,000 Churchill Downs ...Read More
Pure Clan had her second work since the Breeders' Cup on Thursday morning, when she breezed three furlongs in 37.40 seconds at Oaklawn. She went first after the renovation break, under regular exercise rider Steve Schmelzel. Trainer Bob Holthus is pointing Pure Clan for the Grade 2, $200,000 Churchi...Read More

A few weeks ago, trainer Henry Cecil scolded himself for the way he prepared Midday for the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp in early October. She finished third, and at the time, Cecil said the filly had been slightly unprepared following a layoff and would be better in her next start.Read More
The pace was solid and Midday took advantage. With a dream inside run the well-respected Midday rocketed through to win by just over two lengths. Pure Clan rallied well to be second with Forever Together up for third.Read More
Wondering what the Breeders' Cup races will mean to division titles? 2-year-old Filly - This is a division that traditionally goes to the Breeders’ Cup winner, and this year should be no different.Read More

  • Rossington · Both of O'Brien's horses, Rip Van Winkle and Mastercraftsman are for real. I've watched a lot of replays of races that they've either won or gave Sea The Stars all he wanted. Personally, although O'Brien doesn't seem to think so, I feel that Mastercraftsman is a bit more talented even then Rip Van Winkle. I plan to bet Mastercraftsman whether he's in the Dirt Mile or the Classic. I do, however, feel that Rip Van Winkle will be right there with the front runner's come Classic's end. If she sticks with the Classic, it would for me be difficult not to bet Zenyatta to at least hit the board. She handles the synthetics and most particularly Santa Anita race course as well as any horse in racing does. Since it seems that most good turf horses do well on the pro-ride surface, I also wouldn't rule Gio Ponti out of this race either. Beyond that, it's difficult to say. Einstein has done well here in the past having won the S.A. Handicap earlier in the year. Richard's Kid, although a longshot, has done exceedingly well on synthetics having won the Pacific Classic and finishing third in the Goodwood. Summer Bird and Quality Road are the question mark's to me in the race. Having raced exclusively on conventional dirt, no one really knows how they will fire on synthetics. If he does, I feel Quality Road may be sitting on a big race having been bogged down on off tracks his last two races. Colonel John is also proven on synthetics, although I think this particular group of horses may be a little better competition than he used to facing. All and all, this is a tough race to handicap with a lot of "what if" factors to consider. I anxiously await. · 1632 days ago ·

There’s no way to say this without sounding like a disparagement of Summer Bird, who owes me absolutely nothing. He saved me in the Belmont Stakes and made me a Travers celebrity for 15 minutes. I owe him. Read More
  • medlocke · Summer Bird, too, saved me in the Belmont. I had him $10.00 ATB, and he was 11-1, which netted me almost $200. That said, his performance was excellent today. I thought Quality Road would win this race, and still have to wonder if on a dry track if Quality Road may still be able to beat Summer Bird. Because Q.R. ran at him very gamely, even after seeming to not like the mud at Saratoga in the Travers and still came close to winning. But I take nothing away from S.B. He ran like a true champion today, and I wish him all the best. I do look forward to the day that Quality Road gets to race Summer Bird and other top competitors on a dry track. That's when his speed will really show itself and on that day he may turn the tables and get at least a small measure of revenge. · 1657 days ago ·

Her connections may have been leery of the soft Belmont Park turf course, but Pure Clan handled it just fine, thank you, running past Criticism inside the sixteenth pole to win Saturday's Grade 1, $600,000 Flower Bowl Invitational by 2 3/4 lengths. Read More
6:12 PM The Grade I races are over and here are some initial observations: 1.) Todd Pletcher’s Grade I losing streak will end soon.  I promise. 2.) Summer Bird is a very, very nice horse and is a deserving winner of the Eclipse for champion 3YO.  Read More
