What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

Huge effort in the Kilroe! In Europe and Japan top fillies and mares go against the colts routinely...it's nice to see this trend taking hold in America, let's hope this isn't just a one year trend.
Juddmonte Farm's mare Proviso closed desperately in the final sixteenth of a mile to nose Fluke at the wire in an exhilarating finish to the $250,000 Frank E. Kilroe Mile Handicap (gr. IT) on the turf at rainy Santa Anita Park March 6. The first two finishers were formerly in the barn of the late tr...Read More
Saturday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes four graded races. The feature event is the Grade 1 Big Cap, and it could turn into a match race between classy turfer Loup Breton and talented distaffer St Trinians. There is a 60% chance of showers with a high temperature of 62. Read More
Santa Anita will host its best weekend of racing Saturday since the Breeders' Cup. However, you wouldn't know it if you listened to track owner Frank Stronach's recent comments. The Grade 1 Santa Anita Oaks, Kilroe Mile, Santa Anita Handicap and the Sham, an intriguing Kentucky Derby prep, make for...Read More
Gabby's Golden Gal returned to the 3-year-old form that saw her win the Acorn Stakes (gr. I) last spring when she captured the $250,000 Santa Monica Handicap (gr. I) at Santa Anita Jan. 31.Read More
Sunday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes the Grade 1 Santa Monica Handicap. Free Flying Soul is the 5-2 morning line favorite, and the horse for course looms the target in the seven furlong feature. Mostly sunny skies are expected with a high temperature of 67. Read More
Evita Argentina seems to relish seven-furlong races, and the four-year-old Candy Ride (Arg) filly will return to that distance as she tries to pick up her second Grade 1 victory of the Santa Anita Park meeting on Sunday in the $250,000 Santa Monica Handicap (G1).Read More
Juddmonte Farms' homebred trio of VENTURA (Chester House), VISIT (GB) (Oasis Dream [GB]) and PROVISO (GB) (Dansili [GB]) were doing well Sunday for trainer Bobby Frankel, who missed the Breeders' Cup due to ongoing illness. It was reported during the telecast that the Hall of Famer has checked himse...Read More
Careless Jewel is the definition of lone speed for the Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic, the headline event on day one of the two-day 2009 Breeders' Cup from Santa Anita. Primary rivals include Music Note, Life Is Sweet and Cocoa Beach.Read More
There’s on old adage that says the more things change, the more they stay same. Keep that in mind when you handicap the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1). The dynamic three-year-old filly whose name is on the tip of everyone’s tongue may be skipping this weekend’s Breeders’ Cup. Yet in the year’s r...Read More
With Zenyatta's (Street Cry [Ire]) connections opting to send their champion for the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), the Ladies' Classic one day prior could prove to be a contentious affair. There are a number of distaffers in with a chance, but the following three are my top choices for the 1 1/8-mile ...Read More
  • Medlocke · I agree with the author's comment's on Music Note and Careless Jewel, but frankly I think Lethal Heat is a bit overrated. She's not nearly as accomplished this year as Music Note and Careless Jewel have been. I like Careless Jewel's speed to hold up and win the Ladies Classic, but not without a challenge from Music Note. I like Zenyatta's stablemate to get up in the money as well, Life is Sweet has ran very well over the surface and at Santa Anita. She's never been worse than 4th in her whole career, and has very rarely finished out of the money, even getting up for 3rd against the boy's in the Hollywood Gold Cup. At morning line odd's of 8-1, that make's her a "sweet" bet to hit the board in the Ladies Classic. · 134 days ago
Rachel Alexandra isn't coming and Zenyatta is leaning to the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I). However, anyone who believes that doesn't leave much for the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (gr. I) needs to think again.Read More
  • Rossington · Unless she just totally collapses, with Zenyatta likely out of the Ladies Classic, Careless Jewel should, if she runs to form, win the Ladies Classic. Most expect Music Note to run well, but Cocoa Beach, Lethal Heat or Rainbow View seem to be the talk of who's likely to complete the tri-fecta. I think Life is Sweet hit's the board in this race. Managing to finish 3rd to the boys in the Hollywood Gold Cup, she can certainly get up to place or show in the Ladies Classic imo. · 138 days ago
If I have learned one thing since arriving at Santa Anita earlier this week, or from previous experiences prior to the 2008 Breeders' Cup and this past spring in Louisville before the Kentucky Derby, it's this: If you want to see the Godolphin horses train you had better plan on getting up early. Ve...Read More
Undefeated mare Zenyatta, the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic winner, worked six furlongs in company at Hollywood Park on Oct 23rd.Read More
This year's Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (G1) is shaping up to be a repeat of 2008, with most of the same cast and crew re-opposing reigning champion ZENYATTA (Street Cry [Ire]). One really interesting contender has been retired, and another major player is now only 50-50 for the 1 1/8-mile event.Read More
Brushwood Stable’s Mushka, who was named the winner of Sunday’s Juddmonte Spinster (G1) upon the disqualification of Proviso (GB), and Circle E Racing’s Mr. Sidney, who was third in Saturday’s Shadwell Turf Mile (G1), will remain at Keeneland until about a week before the Breeders’ Cup World Champio...Read More
There is so much to discuss after the weekend's stakes extravaganza, but one race that likely had the most profound effect on the Breeders' Cup was the Goodwood Stakes (gr. I).Read More
  • Rossington · I say now or never for Zenyatta. If she had been entered in the Goodwood Stakes, Gitano Hernando or not, she could have won that race. There really wasn't much there to beat, imo. MTB who hasn't won a race since the Ky. Derby, Colonel John who runs well on the surface but is a bit overmatched in the Classic, Informed and Parading, whom neither have ran to par for some time now. So with Sea the Stars now retired, I say let Zenyatta run against the boys. Quality Road or Summer Bird are neither proven on the surface. Of the American entries, only Einstein may give her trouble. So let her run, so what if she finished 3rd to Rip Van Winkle and Midshipman. No shame in that. · 156 days ago
Brushwood Stable's MUSHKA (Empire Maker) crossed under the line 1 1/4 lengths adrift of Proviso (GB) (Dansili [GB]) in Sunday's $500,000 Spinster S. (G1) at Keeneland, but was promoted to first when that one was disqualified and placed second. Sent off the 5-1 fourth pick, the Bill Mott trainee paid...Read More
