What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Proviso...

Top 100 of all time? Seriously? She's a nice filly, but she doesn't belong.
  • 4everZenyatta · You're saying that a mare with 4 G1 wins and over 1 million in earnings doesn't belong in the top 100? She was a wonderful turf mare and deserves all the praise she receives · 955 days ago ·

Proviso, who will try to stop European invader Goldikova from winning an unprecedented third straight Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. • medlocke · I think this mare is being massively overlooked as far as how legitimate of a shot that she has to beat Goldikova and possibly win this year's Breeders Cup Mile-Turf. Proviso and Goldikova faced each other twice back in 2008 when Proviso was still racing in Europe. The first time, in the G3 Prix Chloe. A race that Goldikova won, and Proviso ran 3rd in. The second time the two met was in the 2008 Prix De Diane(French Oaks). In that race, Goldikova finished 3rd, Proviso 4th. The race won by the retired, unbeaten super-filly, Zarkava. My point being, even back a couple of racing seasons ago, there wasn't what you could call a huge difference on paper between Proviso and Goldikova. Even back then. But Proviso now finds herself in the best racing form she's ever been in during her entire career. Having reeled off 4 straight G1 victories. Against very good competition. None of Proviso's G1 win's was against a "soft field." One of them was actually against the boys in the G1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile. She's really in a grove right now. Of course, Goldikova has had an outstanding 2010 season as well. Having raced in 5 G1 events in Europe this season. Goldikova has won 4 of them, with one 2nd place finish behind English 2000 Guineas winner, Makfi in the Prix Jacques Lemoir. Her most recent start was a 7 furlong victory at Longchamp during Arc weekend. Where she won the G1 Prix De La Foret. Beating old foe Paco Boy, and his stablemate, Prix Jean-Prat winner, Dick Turpin. Both Goldikova and Proviso are class acts. Both top-shelf race-mares. Goldikova is favorite to repeat as B.C. Mile champion, and rightfully so. But I do really believe that this one will be tougher for her to win that the one's in 2008 and 2009. Proviso, Gio Ponti, Paco Boy, Sidney's Candy, and Court Vision all with a legit shot at upsetting Goldikova this year if she's not at her dead level best at Churchill Downs. JMO. · 1354 days ago ·

Of the 14 Breeders' Cup races, the biggest favorite is likely to be in the Mile, where Goldikova goes for her unprecedented third consecutive victory on the Churchill Downs turf. We may not have been able to see whether Sidney's Candy was the real deal over turf or if he was "Bellamy Road" type of horse. However, what we were able to see this weekend were three displays. • markinsac · If you were lucky enough to be a rich owner of a top-class horse like Zenyatta or Rachel, would you rather have Assmusen or Sherriffs as trainer? Assmussen has a 1,000 horse stable dotted all over the country, while Sherriffs has a smaller stable. Sherriffs sees his horses EVERY day, meanwhile Assmussen gets updates from his assistant trainers. I know one thing for sure, I'd rather be Assmussen's cell phone provider, i could retire right now! · 1381 days ago ·
