  • goblin · I think it was in a DRF tweet recently, but is also on Princess of Sylmar's official FB page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Princess-of-Sylmar/386087398152576 · 1041 days ago
  • ekindy · The reason I'm questioning it is because the owners (who I assume control the FB page) have been gung ho on the Del Cap all year long, but Pletcher sounded kind of wishy-washy on it after the Phipps. · 1041 days ago
No excuses for anybody in this magnificent race, and no shame for anybody. These were outstanding fillies duking it out, and though the filly I was pulling for came inches short I still will look back at this as one of the most exciting races I've seen. A heartfelt congratulations to Close Hatches, who I will admit to underestimating going into this one. Right now she is the undisputed leader of the older mares this year, and she earned it the hard way.

  • ekindy · What I will say is that this race did not settle who is best. All three have faced each other three times (all in high profile G1's), each had a win, each had a second, and each had an off day for whatever reason. We can nitpick the extremes of those finishes, but any way you slice it this series is far from settled. Hatches deserves the accolades for this win and deserves to be considered this year's leading older mare for the moment. There is still plenty of racing to be done before any Eclipse awards go out, but honestly I don't care about that. I just care that this is an outstanding three way rivalry and makes for exciting horse racing. · 1056 days ago
Great second race back for this superstar. PHENOMENAL race by Close hatches who I have always had a lot of respect for. Can't really see any excuse for Beholder besides she was more off the pace than I expected. Looks like she is a Santa Anita specialist. Glad these three fillies duked it out and didn't dodge each other! Such an exciting race I was off my seat. Wanted princess to win but very nice race by CH. Hope these three stay healthy and come back next year!
  • SSilence86 · I jumped off the couch and was urging them home. I've always liked CH, and I thought POS had her for a second. Exciting race! · 1057 days ago
  • EP Taylor · GREAT GREAT race by the fillies. Laying it all on the line. · 1057 days ago
I've said it once, and i'll say it again, she beats Beholder every single time outside of California. She is the better filly. Princess was surging forward, Beholder was backing up. Major Kuddos to CH today as well.
I was originally leaning towards Beholder. However, after handicapping it. Princess of Sylmar is going to get an absolutely beautiful trip. There is going to be a solid pace to close into. She ran a 105 on my speed figures for her comeback race, which is very, very good. Scary thing is, she is bound to improve. Beholder and Close Hatches will be tough, but I'm picking Princess of Sylmar to win the Ogden Phipps.

  • CauseForConcern · I'll list my picks for races 5-11, with the exceptions being the grass races. R5-Sociable Intrusion's race to have; R6-Looking for a possible bomb. Let's go with Sweet Whiskey. R7-Undecided between Close Hatches and Princess of Sylmar. R9-Normandy Invasion makes it appropriate, being the day after D-Day. Also, let's throw in Moreno. R11-Leaning toward Wicked Strong. Throw in longshot Samraat, as they both come back to their home in NY. There you have it. See ya' at the Cashier's Window!!!!! · 1057 days ago
My pick to win the Ogden Phipps.
6th post out of 6 again. Exactly what she got in her last two defeats. I know it's not the worst thing in the world in a one turn race with a long run up, but still Princess can't catch a break on the post position.

The fact she'll be pointed away from Santa Anita and the Breeders Cup is extremely disappointing.

  • rorschach1992 · The perceived speed bias of the track at SA last year isn't fully at fault for her poor showing. I remember reading that they were not pointing her there, then had a change of heart. Seeing her in the paddock and walking ring before the Distaff, it showed that she was rushed there. She was rather gaunt looking, especially in her hind end, and looked nothing like the strong filly who dominated the summer 3YO filly classics. She looked easily intimidated before the race and I wasn't surprised to see her run so poorly after seeing her pre-race. · 1111 days ago
  • ekindy · She didn't exactly look plump at the Cat Cay either. Pletcher has said at least a couple times that keeping weight on this one is a struggle. · 1111 days ago
Well she has no shot at any eclispe award this year since she wont be going to the breeders cup.

  • buzzcat859 · she is really wonderful. If the track ius speed bias beholder will win and if the track isnt speed bias POS will win. its that simple · 1118 days ago
  • Northport · If a filly can win the Kentucky Oaks, the Coaching Club American Oaks, the Alabama, and the Beldame and lose the Eclipse Award by a landslide the way she did last year after flopping in the Breeders Cup, what exactly would inspire the connections to return to the Breeder's Cup in search of an Eclipse Award? They want to do what is right by the horse, and there are no shortages of top flight races for her to win outside of California · 1118 days ago
nice win by her today. the fact that she will race against Beholder in the Ogden Phipps is really exciting. so i don't think her not going to Santa Anita is "ducking" anything. i think they just have Princess' best interests in mind.
DRF reports that the Ogden Phipps on June 7th is next up for the Princess. Pletcher stated that she will not be returning to SA this year.
Sheeeeeeeeeeeee's back!
