Older Comments about Presvis...

This is one of the saddest post I've ever had to make on this web-site. Presvis, one of my all-time favorite Dubai Carnival horses sadly died Wednesday from colic the Racing Post web-site is reporting this morning. Presvis was a real globetrotter during his career and won lots of big races. The G1 Audemars Piguet QE II Cup in Hong Kong in 2009, the G2 Jebel-Hatta in Dubai in 2010, and the G1 Dubai Duty Free in 2011. Presvis was a true warrior. Condolences to his connections.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @icyhotboo, I checked the story again because I thought it may been an error on my part? But it does say Presvis was highest earning British trained "gelding" of all time. A big chunk of Presvis career earnings came from 4 wins. The G1 Audemars Piguet QE II Cup in Hong Kong, plus the G2 Jebel Hatta, G2 Al Rashidiya, and G1 Dubai Duty Free in Dubai. He also won a couple of handicaps with pretty large purses at the 09' Dubai Carnival when it was still being run at Nad Al Sheba. · 1649 days ago
I read this on a European racing web-site today. Presvis has been on a mid-season break since running poorly in the G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal-Ascot back in June. For anyone who doesn't follow racing on an international level. Presvis is a 6 yr.old colt from Great Britain that races all over the world, and is a G1 winner all over the world. He's the type of horse that the tougher the competition in the race. The more dangerous he becomes. Presvis is also very surface multi-dimensional. He's primarily a 10+ furlongs horse. That's always a threat to win any race on any surface. Presvis has raced in the UK, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Singapore. His trainer, Luca Cumane, said that when Presvis returns very soon from his mid-season break. They're going to sit down an weigh his options for his next race. Cumane said he would not rule out possibly sending Presvis to America for this year's Breeders Cup Classic. Since America is the one country that Presvis has not raced in. Most of his G1 win's have come on the turf. But he has also won Graded Stakes races on all-weather, and has trained on conventional dirt. That's why I say he's always a threat to win any race, on any surface. If Presvis shows up refreshed for this year's Breeders Cup Classic? That adds another very dangerous horse to the Classic roster. Presvis is also a deep closer. That comes hard and fast with giant strides when closing out a race.
With maybe the exception of the horrible ride that Fallon gave Gitano Hernando in the Dubai World Cup, Christophe Lemaire's ride on Presvis in the 2010 Dubai Duty Free had to be one of the worst that I saw during the whole racing carnival at Meydan, IMO. Knowing that Presvis, in at least 8 out of every 10 races that he run's in, likes to doddle at the back of the pack, and then weave his way right on through with a big burst at the end for the wire. And he either win's, or finishes 2nd by being just short almost every time. But how Lemaire could have put Presvis in the position he did for him to end up 11th in the Duty Free is beyond me? He was at the rear of the field. so he had the advantage of seeing when and where the leaders were starting to stack up. Then, instead of swinging Presvis just wide of that for clear sailing, Lemaire ran him straight into a wall of horses in the stretch. Granted, as wide as Presvis would have had to gone to get into the clear, he would've likely been beaten anyway. But he still would've been in contention, with a shot to at the very least hit the board if he couldn't have won. Alexandros ran a terrible race as well. But his wasn't jockey error. Alexandros, who usually likes to be on or rate just right off of the pace, just didn't have his best stuff in the Duty Free. Presvis looked full of run, as did Gitano Hernando in the World Cup. But both's jockeys never put them in any kind of position for that "burst of run" to do either any good. But I guess it's easy to sit at home and play "arm chair jockey" and spot those gaps, whereas I'm sure it's much more difficult to spot them when you're on horseback in the actual race itself.
Of all of the racing done on March 4th over in Dubai, Presvis coming from dead last to catch and run by Alexandros, who was flying himself at races end, in the Jebel Hatta was the most impressive performance, by far, of the night. Alexandros is himself a top-class colt that's a multiple Graded stakes winner in both Dubai and in Great Britain. Presvis, with that performance, IMO has most likely sealed the deal for being the odds on favorite to win the upcoming Dubai Duty Free. JMO.

In the finally of the night on 3-4-10 at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, Presvis made an impressive from last to first dash passing a hard charging Alexandros in the stretch of the Jebel Hatta for the win. Presvis is set race next on 3-27-10 at Meydan in the Dubai Duty Free, and I imagine after his impressive late charge to beat a high quality colt like Alexandros, he'll likely be considered one of the favorites in the Dubai Duty Free. Presvis raced in the 2009 Dubai Duty Free and flashed home late from the rear to grab second in race that was dominated by Gladiatorus.
