What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

Breeders' Cup Turf runner-up Presious Passion returned to the track Friday for the first time since his fifth-place finish the previous Saturday in Calder's Grade 2 W.L. McKnight Handicap. As usual, Presious Passion was full of himself during training hours while looking none the worse for wear from...Read More

Today in the W.L. McKnight is another prime example of why I won't bet on Pressious Passion. He's what I call a 50-50 horse. If the right one show's up, he'll take you wire to wire. But, as in his last two races, by setting such an outrageous pace, he ran himself right out of the race. It happened to him in the Breeders Cup Turf with Conduit. And it happened to him today in a horse, Cloudy's Knight, that had already proven himself to be a strong closer in the Breeders Cup Marathon, narrowly missing a win against Man Of Iron. IMO, Pressous Passion's connections need to find some middle ground with this horse. He can be a front runner without having to blow out to a 15 or 20 length head start. If they don't change his tactics, he'll be a prime target for every race that he enters that has a strong closer. IMO.

  • bband · Agree that his style is a double-edged sword. Looking back on his PP's, what is interesting is that he's only employed his hellbent style very recently. Other than one start almost two years ago, it's only in his last 7 races (prior to today) that he's jumped out by more than 3 lengths. His style only usually works on firm turf courses, and turf tracks that can be conducive to speed like Monmouth and Santa Anita. · 44 days ago

Now that the gifts have been opened, the meals behind us, and the Christmas tree’s stint soon to end, racing fans turn their attention back to the greatest game in the world.  The 26th of December means the same thing every year, the opening day of Santa Anita and the normal return of racing in...Read More

The amazing thing is he goes, goes, goes, goes and still keeps going when confronted in the stretch. Very game.
His race in the BC was just awesome. Sitting there in the grandstand at Santa Anita, we were all saying he was done. The way he came back to the entire field, Conduit swooped by him, but then he fought hard and didn't let anyone else past him was just unbelievable. It's not anything I've seen before in racing. It created quite a buzz on track... and everyone was really buzzing after the next race... saying we had just seen two amazing races in a row.
Presious Passion is a horse that's really an enigma to me. There's no secret about his running style. But, if the right Presious Passion show's up, he'll take you wire to wire, no problem. But it also seem's that in some of his races that he's run himself out of the race by the time he's past the 1 mile pole. But I will give credit where credit is due. I thought he had run himself out of the race in the B.C. Turf this year. But what a fight he put up with Conduit, who is no doubt one of the world's best on turf. He really showed a ton of heart in that race, and losing ever so slightly as he did to Conduit is certainly no disgrace.

If there is one thing you can always count on in the Breeders' Cup it's that it will have it's share of longshot winners and mid-price overlays who get lost in the handicapping frenzy that is so much a part of the event.Read More
With only eight horses going postward in the Breeders' Cup Turf, the draw should have no effect whatsoever in the 1 1/2-mile contest, which starts halfway down Santa Anita's hillside course. As we all know there is always an angle or two we can latch on to in the Breeders' Cup. The trick is finding them among the morass of stakes horses that line up for the 14 races. There probably are more chances of landing a longshot on a synthetic surface, because, in all honesty, does anyone really...Read More
There is so much to discuss after the weekend's stakes extravaganza, but one race that likely had the most profound effect on the Breeders' Cup was the Goodwood Stakes (gr. I).Read More
  • Rossington · I say now or never for Zenyatta. If she had been entered in the Goodwood Stakes, Gitano Hernando or not, she could have won that race. There really wasn't much there to beat, imo. MTB who hasn't won a race since the Ky. Derby, Colonel John who runs well on the surface but is a bit overmatched in the Classic, Informed and Parading, whom neither have ran to par for some time now. So with Sea the Stars now retired, I say let Zenyatta run against the boys. Quality Road or Summer Bird are neither proven on the surface. Of the American entries, only Einstein may give her trouble. So let her run, so what if she finished 3rd to Rip Van Winkle and Midshipman. No shame in that. · 118 days ago
