Ahead of the United Nations at Monmouth park, A stroll dow memory lane to 2009 and the incredibly gusty Presious Passion winning after opening up 20 lengths on the field. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kvq-_0rHps
Why is this horse still in training?
  • ugozenyatta · Because his connections feel he still has good races left in him :) · 1547 days ago
  • cocoa2 · Because his trainer knows that the peak age of a horse is not 3, but 5 and up. He is a gelding, and may race into his 15's. · 1547 days ago
Slow down horse! Your too fast
what word discribes this horse for me that would be "SUPER"
I was watching some of his past races, (where he won) this horse has a heart of a lion!!!!!
Man,this one is nuts!! This horse only knows one speed. Go.
Poor Mr.Passion. An old warrior running against fresh, young horses. The best he could do was a 6th, but hes still a winner in my book. The greatest Turf gelding we've seen in a long time. His heart is bigger than the sun!
  • bband · Presious Passion is a great horse, but he really needs a mile and a half (or more) for his style to be effective. · 1944 days ago
The 09' Arlington Million, the 09' Breeders Cup Turf, the 09' W.L. McKnight, and the 2010 Sheema Classic. Four races right off the top of my head I can think of that Presious Passion's ridiculous "run off from the field" front running style has cost him victories. Instead of maybe breaking sharp, and staying maybe 5 or 6 lengths ahead of the field, and then having something left in reserve. But with P.P., it's either all or nothing.
  • arazi · Presious Passion's unique run off style works only one way... on rock-hard turf courses. All of his success running off has been at Monmouth and Santa Anita, with some success at Gulfstream and Calder when they are firmer. On a deep weedy turf course like Arlington, Woodbine, Churchill, Fair Grounds, etc... he's got no shot whatsoever. · 2251 days ago
I'll give Presious Passion one thing. He never fails to disappoint. When is this horse ever going to learn, that when you're racing some of the best turf horses in the world, that "I've got to go lead by 20 lengths" strategy will only serve to spell doom. As it just did in Dubai at Meydan in the 2010 Sheema Classic. Again, he bounded right out of the gate to go out about 10 lengths ahead of all the field but one. The Irish colt Golden Sword, who's been known to put on pace himself in races, stayed about 2 or 3 lengths off of Presious Passion. But at the 400 meters mark, both Presious Passion and Golden Sword were cooked. Golden Sword ending up 14th and Presious Passion ending up 16th of 16 runners. Jukebox Jury faded all the way back to 15th, which really surprised me. But that front running strategy of Presious Passion's has only been successful when the competition has been much weaker. Albeit, his stamina did hold up in the 09' B.C. Turf, but only to be caught by Conduit, again, one of the most successful turf horses in the world. But going against the likes of Dar Re Mi, Buena Vista, Spanish Moon, Cavalryman, and Deem, it only spelled defeat for him again. That's why I will NEVER bet dollar one on this horse. Because much more often than not, he run's himself completely out of too many races. TJMO.
Today in the W.L. McKnight is another prime example of why I won't bet on Pressious Passion. He's what I call a 50-50 horse. If the right one show's up, he'll take you wire to wire. But, as in his last two races, by setting such an outrageous pace, he ran himself right out of the race. It happened to him in the Breeders Cup Turf with Conduit. And it happened to him today in a horse, Cloudy's Knight, that had already proven himself to be a strong closer in the Breeders Cup Marathon, narrowly missing a win against Man Of Iron. IMO, Pressous Passion's connections need to find some middle ground with this horse. He can be a front runner without having to blow out to a 15 or 20 length head start. If they don't change his tactics, he'll be a prime target for every race that he enters that has a strong closer. IMO.

  • bband · Agree that his style is a double-edged sword. Looking back on his PP's, what is interesting is that he's only employed his hellbent style very recently. Other than one start almost two years ago, it's only in his last 7 races (prior to today) that he's jumped out by more than 3 lengths. His style only usually works on firm turf courses, and turf tracks that can be conducive to speed like Monmouth and Santa Anita. · 2343 days ago
  • cigar · He's very hit-or-miss... risky to put all your money in on. · 2342 days ago
The amazing thing is he goes, goes, goes, goes and still keeps going when confronted in the stretch. Very game.
His race in the BC was just awesome. Sitting there in the grandstand at Santa Anita, we were all saying he was done. The way he came back to the entire field, Conduit swooped by him, but then he fought hard and didn't let anyone else past him was just unbelievable. It's not anything I've seen before in racing. It created quite a buzz on track... and everyone was really buzzing after the next race... saying we had just seen two amazing races in a row.
Presious Passion is a horse that's really an enigma to me. There's no secret about his running style. But, if the right Presious Passion show's up, he'll take you wire to wire, no problem. But it also seem's that in some of his races that he's run himself out of the race by the time he's past the 1 mile pole. But I will give credit where credit is due. I thought he had run himself out of the race in the B.C. Turf this year. But what a fight he put up with Conduit, who is no doubt one of the world's best on turf. He really showed a ton of heart in that race, and losing ever so slightly as he did to Conduit is certainly no disgrace.
