Gutierrez to Pilot Boxeur des Rues in Brooklyn
With his mind set on getting Mario Gutierrez a full, live-action tour of the course, Doug O’Neill has Gutierrez aboard 4-year-old colt Boxeur des Rues in the 124th running of the Grade 2, $200,000 Brooklyn Handicap on Friday.

Brilliant Speed Finishes Fast in Blue Grass
Brilliant Speed, unhurried in the early going under Joel Rosario, stormed down the middle of the track to nip Twinspired at the wire in Saturday's Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland.

Good work if you had Brilliant Speed. This horse was tough to have in a wide open race. I agree that Twinspired ran very well. But it's hard to bank on any of these doing well at Churchill. Then again, Paddy O'Prado looked like a turf horse last year, before running a good third in the Derby.

12 Set to Clash in Kentucky’s Blue Grass
The field was drawn today for Keeneland’s historic Blue Grass Stakes with 12 three-year-old colts entering to run for the winner’s share of the $750,000 in the traditional Kentucky Derby prep. Heading the field will be last fall’s Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes winner, Santiva. The bay colt is trained ...

Basically if Santiva doesn't win the purse will award some second tier or grass horse enough earnings for the Derby

Paddy O'Prado is no normal turf horse ... can't wait to see him back this year!

My point is no one was talking about Paddy this time last year... he just broke his maiden the race before the blue grass...just because someone is unfamiliar with the horses or that the horses are up and coming doesn't mean they wont make any noise in the derby. The derby is by far wide open this year with a very inconsistent field. Don't dismiss these just yet is all i am saying

the crazy thing about the pic above is that Bridgmohan is the only jock to win on this horse yet he is not in the saddle.

Oh no, I am not dismissing anyone in this field ... especially in the context of turf or synthetics. I think what JohnBravo was saying, and I agree, is that there is a big question what the Blue Grass result on this surface means to the Derby. Although you are correct in pointing out that Paddy did run well in Louisville. By the way, Paddy only had one win going in, but it was the Grade 3 Palm Beach Stakes in which he ran 1:45 2/5 for the 9 furlongs!

Any prep is fun to watch, but I am ont going to try and handicap the winner. I will Santiva, because he is still one of the horses on the Derby trail that could still move this race.

I know Santiva has been pointing for this race but I will keep an eye on Wilcox Inn's odds.

i think king congie will be able to pull of a win and upset santiva. today while I was in school the name king congie just popped into my head from out of nowhere. It seemed familiar but I couldn't figure out where i heard the name from. turns out he is in the blue grass. was it a sign? i don't know but im not sold on this santiva colt yet.

Uncle Mo Still On Derby Trail
Trainer Todd Pletcher said that Uncle Mo, who suffered his first career defeat from five starts when finishing third in the Wood, came out of the race in good order.

Yes, as of now he is on Derby Trail. But, don't be completely taken by surprise if 2 or 1 week before the derby we hear the all familiar refrain from his trainer, "Uncle Mo is not training as well as we would like to see, so he is off the TC trail and will be retired." In other words , they need to salvage his already badly bruised reputation as a future super sire. By losing the Kentuckt Derby after the shockingly mundane performance in the Wood, UM"S potential value as a future stallion shall have diminsihed by at least $10 million.

ArturoLaguna- Mike Repole stated at the Eclipse Awards he would run this horse for years. He said even if he was a 50,000$ Claimer, or the best horse in the world he would still run him to the exception of injury. But this is a minor bruise. He even contemplated gelding him.

Thead"or- I hope for the sake of the horse and the connections that my ruminations are proven incorrect. As a former international corporate banker, I just don't see Mr. Repole the successful entrepreneur that we know would even countenance gelding a 2 yr old champion. Even if UM doesn't run in or win the KD, he will still be on much demand as a commercial sire in view of his precociousness.

If Uncle Mo isn't a longer distance horse as we hoped, he would do the racing world a severe justice in gelding this horse. We need sturdier horses, and IF, and I say IF, Uncle Mo isn't that. Why take him to the breeding shed? Hes a very wealthy man, he doesn't need the money. Uncle Mo could be an icon of the racing world.
