He’s half the Champ’s age – aided by his youth when facing the credentialed “Cajun” veteran – but is he up to this challenge? The $60,000 Mr. Sulu was moved to a high-profile spot on Opening Day because it traditionally attracts a large and competitive field of quality turf runners. Prayer For Relief has turned into a decent sort for Bob Baffert. Say what you will about how the pace unfolded in yesterday’s Super Derby, but one thing you cannot deny is that the winner is a horse on a roll … and a Derby roll at that. Undefeated now in four starts in 2011, Prayer For Relief first jumped on the Derby train with a win in Prairie Meadows’ Iowa Der...Read More

  • DeadHeat · He has not overly impressed me. It is easy to rack up wins when the competition you face is so inferior to you. I'm glad he is taking his game to a new level, but I don't see him hitting the board in the Classic. · 256 days ago ·

Populist Politics keeps stepping up his game, and following his big third-place finish in last weekend’s Super Derby, he could get another shot at graded competition next month. Trainer Tom Amoss, who saddled Jerry Namy’s Shared Property to win Saturday’s Grade III Arlington-Washington Futurity, was understandably upbeat when reached at the airport shortly before his return trip to Kentucky Sunday morning.   “That was a lot of fun, yesterday,” said Amoss.  “I stop...Read More

  • tktile · I am sick to stomach today. I capped the 10th and 11th race to perfection and only cashed place and show bets in each. I was stuck at my tile store until late and had to rush to the track but I did my handicapping at home so I had a value plan for the 10th on #7 Gung Ho who's workouts suggested he was on the improve and was a much better value than his 12/1 M/L suggested. The betting public agreed and knocked him down to 9/2. But my choice as the A+ horse was #8 Top Cat Boogie who was 5/1 M/L and going off at 12/1 when I got to the track. Was the public reading the same program. 12/1 on the high speed figure and my top contender!! I went to mattresses on him and keyed him on top. $20 win/place 5 times $1 perfecta 8w1,7,9,11 ran 10 times(I hate paying taxes for handicapping good) .50 tri 8 w1,7,9,11 ran 10 times and .10 super 8w1,7,9,11 ran 10 times. If you watched the race my horse (Gung Ho) who I was driving down to bet won by a nose in a photo finish over my key horse. Had I called in my bet i would have won $1,180 on win $680 on place $627 perfecta $2,403 tri and $2,559 super. Instead I keyed the 8 and not the 7,8 w 1,7,8,9,11 and only cashed a $502 place bet. Alright I'm pretty sick at the moment but I had capped the 11th and had a small profit in my pocket and I loved #9 Awsome Bet in the next race. To make things better I loved #4 Populist Politics also. And when I saw those odds of #9 12/1 and #4 20/1 I said self were going to make some money on this race. I figured the #1 and #5 (who I thought would have a regression coming off a best speed figure)would get in a speed dual and the 4 & 9 woul d come running late. Furthermore what's not to like about the #6 Alteration who was up against it in this one but I liked to come in 2nd,3rd or 4th. I wasn't going to make the same mistake this time $20 win/place on the 4,9 5 times 4,9 w 4,5,6,9 perfecta, trifecta and super same bets as previous race. The race went down like this... The #5 got the lead as expected but the #1 didn't get out of the gate my 4,9 had nice position but when I saw a .50 1/2 mile I knew I might be up against it but my horses came charging late and briefky took the lead but the #5 had to much left in the tank a won by a 1/2 length. I tasted throw up in my mouth. Why do I not box when I only like 4 horses in the race. In fact the #5 was such an obvious choice how could I not play a defense per tri super keying the #5 if the pace didn't set up. I cashed a $460 place bet. Salt on the wound when #4 PP paid $9.20 to show. I'm sick. The money I should have made and just figure how close I was twice in a row to making I would estimate around $15K a race had my horse got that length or nose. Thanks for listening my girl says atleast you didn't lose but I feel awful and lost my pride. And like in tennis they were unforced errors because I know better. If you need a winner don't ask me but if your looking for a good place or show horse I'm your guy. · 259 days ago ·

  • MichaelPavelick · @mdracing69 88 is good enough. It really depends if thats a improvement from his previous ungraded races, because it was off of a layoff. It also depends on PFR's speed rating in his w. Virg. derby victory. I will probably have a complete picture on Friday evening. So far to me Trubs is a exciting 12-1 shot. · 261 days ago ·
