  • Eclipse First · Great field--Immortal Verse is the real deal, and Dick Turpin and Dubawi Gold both a bit scary; still looking for Frankel to remain undefeated, but do feel this will be closer. · 918 days ago ·
The 2011 edition of the Dubal World Cup ended up being a showcase for Japan as horses from that ailing country took the top two spots with Victoire Pisa and Transcend. Transcent went straight to the front over a tiring Tapeta surface at Maydan with eventual winner Victoire Pisa sitting back in last ...Read More
  • medlocke · This year's Dubai World Cup really served to remind me how much I truly miss the race being run on the conventional dirt at Nad Al Sheba. Victoire Pisa had to come 5 or 6 wide to forge to the front early just to inject any pace at all into the race, as it was run at a terrible dottle. That move turned out to be the best tactical move of the race. As Victoire Pisa took the lead and never looked back. · 1120 days ago ·

BOLD SILVANO, Stan James's 7-2 favourite for the Dubai World Cup next month, will head straight for the race on March 26 after being ruled out of Thursday's Al Maktoum Challenge with a bruised foot. His name did not appear among the final 14 declarations for the third round of the Challenge on Meydan...Read More
  • medlocke · Even worse than Bold Silvano missing Rd. 3 of the Al Maktoum Challenge. Saeed Bin Suroor entered Mendip in the Burj Nahaar instead. After Mendip romping in Rd. 1 of the Al Maktoum Challenge, and allegedly being pointed for the Dubai World Cup? Don't understand this move by Suroor at all? · 1146 days ago ·
  • ajump08 · medlocke, just like the Derby these trainers for the most part don't want a peak performance before the big day. Godolphin doesn't wan't to overdue it with him, but I do question if Mendip as good at 10 furlongs as 8 furlongs. He should definitely win his race though with division leader Skysurfer skipping this one and training up to the Godolphin Mile. · 1146 days ago ·

Twice Over got first run on Vision d’Etat as the enterprising tactics employed by Tom Queally gave the winning 4-year-old son of Observatory his second successive victory in the Group 1, $602,000 Champion Stakes, the last that will be run over Newmarket’s straight 10 furlongs. Twice Over’s victory a...Read More
The Breeders' Cup three-peat. It has never happened, and only once been attempted, but if things go as planned, Goldikova, the marvelous French miler, will try to make history this year. OK, we’ve made it through September, picking up a few Breeders’ Cup horses along the way, and now it’s time to gear up for the big prep weekends at Belmont, Hollywood Park, and Keeneland, and, of course, at Longchamp. Only then will the BC races be truly defined. This past weekend saw several intere...Read More
Under a perfectly timed ride by Frankie Dettori, Poet's Voice rallied furiously to deny Rip Van Winkle by a nose in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes sponsored by Sony (Eng-I) at Ascot Sept. 25.Steadied at the start by Dettori, Poet’s Voice was dropped into last as Air Chief Marshal was gunned to the fr...Read More
Saturday's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot Racecourse is, arguably, the most important Group 1 mile turf race outside the United States. The QE II is part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge series, which earns the winner an automatic invitation to compete in the Breeders' Cup Mile at Churchill Downs.Read More
  • mshutty · Did get to see the impressive victory posted by Rip Van Winkle in the Juddmonte. Quite a performance and he looks better than ever. Certainly the one to beat tomorrow. Seems the C team from Europe have been handling the A team from North America pretty well this past Summer. Imagine what their A and B teams will bring come Breeders Cup. Nice recap on the recent history of the QE II. · 1304 days ago ·
  • medlocke · Great race in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot today. Race favorite, and 2009 Q.E.II winner, Rip Van Winkle, was beaten in an extremely tight photo finish by the Godolphin colt Poet's Voice. Poet's Voice came into the race off of a win at Goodwood in the G2 totesport.com Celebration Mile. Rip Van Winkle won the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York back in August. Against a stellar field of competition. Defeating 3rd place finisher in the 09' Classic, Twice Over, by a nose. But Rip Van Winkle has since been well beaten by his stablemate, Cape Blanco, in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown, and in today's Q.E.II Stakes at Ascot. Cape Blanco is the Ballydoyle 3yr.old who has won the G2 Dante Stakes at York. The G1 Irish Derby at the Curragh. And was 2nd to Harbinger in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Trainer Aidan O'Brien commented after Rip Van Winkle's loss in the Q.E.II today that "they will have to sit down and evaluate whether or not to send Rip back to America for this year's Breeders Cup." I think it's much more likely that we're going to see his stablemate, Cape Blanco, in this year's Classic instead. The Irish Champion Stakes is a "Breeders Cup Challenge win and your in" race. So Cape Blanco already has the automatic victory to gain entry into the Classic. Cape Blanco destroyed Rip Van Winkle, Twice Over, Sea Lord, Beethoven, and Famous Name in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes. Rip Van Winkle finished a very distant 2nd to his stablemate in that race, with Twice Over a distant 3rd. · 1303 days ago ·
As one of Europe’s premier Mile races, the Queen Elizabeth II (G1) Stakes at Ascot has understandably had a significant bearing on the Breeders’ Cup. Its running on the final weekend of September enables it to be both target and realistic prep for end-of-year international bounty hunters. The last t...Read More
