What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Planteur...

What does one do when wanting a "ready-made" Dubai World Cup contender? Buy one, if you are a Sheikh. Yes, Planteur has changed hands. http://www.thoroughbrednews.com.au/International/default.aspx?id=65512
Wins the listed Winter Derby Trial Stakes at Lingfield, using the race as a prep for a return to Meydan and another run in the G1 Dubai World Cup in March.
Trainer Marco Botti announced on Wednesday, February 21st that Planteur, last year's G1 Dubai World Cup 3rd, will prep for another shot at the race in the listed Winter Derby Trial Stakes on Lingfield's all-weather track this Saturday. Botti said that himself and Planteur's connections decided they thought it would be better for Planteur than taking on "already race fit" horses at Meydan the following week. Planteur returned from last year's Dubai World Cup to run a strong race in the G1 Prix D'Ispahan in France 2 months later, finishing 3rd behind 1-1/4 lengths behind winner Golden Lilac and 3/4 lengths behind Cirrus Des Aigles in 2nd. Planteur was later moved up to 2nd place after Cirrus Des Aigles was DQ'd and placed last after testing positive in a post-race sample for a similar type of anti-inflammatory drug that got Snow Fairy DQ'd from her G1 Prix Jean-Romanet win. He followed up that run with 2 very sub-par performances in the G1 Prince of Wales's Stakes in 7th and the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes also in 7th. Consistency is the one thing Planteur's lacked during his career. But when he's right there's no doubt this is a horse with real ability. It's really hard to speculate how well he may or may not run at Meydan again this year?

  • MarcelloMarocco · So I guess Sir henry's Cancer and his inability to travel is why they kept Frankel in england and not headed for France. give Sir Henry a break. Champions Stakes is just fine. Where are all the top 10f horses over there dodging him like at York?. The Champions will be a sham of a field because regardless of where Frankel runs, the others will run to the other race. He goes to the ARC the others will run The Champions, and Japan Cup, if he goes to the Champions....everyone else runs for the ARC. · 264 days ago ·

  • KyOaksRunner · In this age of racing it's hard to compare careers that are so drastically different from each other. Goldikova excells at 1 mile and Zarkava loved a "route" race. Longervity shouldn't determine greatness, it should only help define it if it's already in the horse. Zarkava was great and didn't need a long career to prove it, if she had continued racing who knows how great she could have been, but her stats are incredible as they stand now. Goldikova is great and has proven that many times over the course of five years worth of racing. · 673 days ago ·

You'll excuse me while I laugh at Horseracingnation.com having Animal Kingdom and Havre De Grace rated higher in their power rating's that So You Think or Black Caviar!! LOL. Black Caviar's the #1 rated sprinter in the world, still unbeaten. So You Think is the best middle distance turf horse in the world. Only out of the $$$ one time in his career, and a 6-time G1 winner. Animal Kingdom or Havre De Grace couldn't come within 5 length's of So You Think, on any surface!! · 741 days ago ·
