What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Piscitelli...

The recent trends might "feel" like late bloomers have dominated the Kentucky Derby, but don't be fooled. The top four finishers of the last five Derbies averaged 3.7 starts as 2-year-olds and owned a combined mark of 34-for-79 as juveniles, a smashing 43 percent win rate. Almost half (10) of those ...Read More
William C. Schettine’s Grade 3-placed winner Piscitelli will be sidelined for at least 90 days after sustaining a leg injury in the Holy Bull Stakes (G3) on January 23 at Gulfstream Park. Trainer Richard Sacco said the three-year-old Victory Gallop colt will be out of training from February through ...Read More
Fox Hill Farms’ Winslow Homer made an auspicious stakes debut Saturday at Gulfstream Park as he pulled away from Robert LaPenta’s 8-to-5 favorite Jackson Bend in the deep stretch to score a three-quarter length victory in the $150,000 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) as both talented 3-year-olds set off on a p...Read More
  • Rossington · Speaking of the Kentucky Derby, has anyone out there heard any news at all about some of the 09' Derby runners and contenders that were injured early in the year? I know that Pioneer of the Nile, Papa Clem, and Dunkirk have all been retired. But what about Musketman, The Pamplemousse(who I know didn't run in the Derby), or I Want Revenge? I saw that Friesan Fire and General Quarters have both returned to action racing in the Louisiana Handicap recently. Just wondering if anyone knew when we might expect the return of some of the afore mentioned? · 741 days ago ·

  • cigar · If you go back and watch Winslow Homer's first three races he shows definitive improvement both in terms of overall ability, push-button speed and ratability. I expect him to run big in the Holy Bull. · 746 days ago ·

Disappointment and hope run in tandem on the trail. Just minutes after word broke that Azeri's baby TAKE CONTROL was injured and off the Triple Crown trail, along came Barbaro's little brother LENTENOR to pull off a "wow" performance unmatched in the maiden ranks this season. Call me crazy, but LENT...Read More
The field for Saturday’s highly-anticipated renewal of the $150,000 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park continues to take shape with a field of seven to 10 3-year-olds expected. Robert LaPenta’s Jackson Bend will likely be favored in the one-turn, one-mile test. Gulfstream racing officials lis...Read More

William Schettine’s 3-year-old colt Piscitelli worked five furlongs in 1:01 1/5 at Palm Meadows Friday morning with jockey Kent Desormeaux aboard for trainer Rick Sacco as he prepares for his season debut in next Saturday’s $150,000 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park. “He went very well and g...Read More
South Florida has been a winter haven for Kentucky Derby hopefuls for decades. This is not some nostalgic bent. Three of the last four Derby winners, and four of the last seven, have made Florida their winter home, so it's little wonder that racing fans are already asking about which Florida 3-year-...Read More
Who cares if it's only December? You can still pretend eggnog is really a mint julep or that Santa means Santa Anita Derby or that poinsettias smell like roses or that "Jingle Bells" sounds like "My Old Kentucky Home." Come on, you can do it. Just close your eyes and envision the sights, sounds, and...Read More

  • Rossington · I think Lookin at Lucky and D'Funnybone will be the two to beat in the B.C. Juvenile. In the B.C. Juvenile Turf, Interactif, imo, is the best 2yr.old in training in the U.S. right now, dirt or turf. I wouldn't be surprised to see his connection's after the Breeders Cup races try him on dirt sometime early in 2010. If he takes to the dirt he could be a real player in next year's Triple Crown Series. His toughest competition in the Juvenile Turf, on paper anyway, looks to be the European horse Viscount Nelson as they're both already proven winner's with Interactif being 4-3-0-0 and Viscount Nelson being 4-2-1-1. This race should prove to be an interesting match up between these two juvenile stars. But I'd have to give a slight edge to Interactif. · 833 days ago ·
