What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Pinch Pie...

Aruna, a Grade 1 winner at 1 1/8 miles, has been entered in Saturday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Sheepshead Bay, with the 1 3/8-mile race on Belmont Park’s Widener turf course as an intended tryout for a campaign focusing on lengthy turf races.Read More
Love and Pride, an A.P. Indy filly who has made it a habit of getting out to the lead, will be trying for her second stakes win of the year when she takes on eight rivals in the Allaire DuPont Distaff Stakes (gr. Trapped behind a wall of horses in midstretch, Winter Memories unleashed a breathtaking last-to-first run on the far outside through the final yards to nab Theyskens' Theory at the wire in Saturday's Grade 1, $250,000 Garden City at Belmont Park. Although forwardly placed behind More Than Real throu...Read More

  • BrianAppleton · @medlocke - I think Theysken's Theory has a good chance to hit the board, but I wasn't able to see replays of her races in Europe so I can't say too much about her chances back here. I don't like that she hasn't had a race in the US to "warm up" and is jumping straight into a Grade 1. I'd be surprised to see her win but I do on the other hand agree completely on her breeding...excellent pedigree! · 254 days ago ·

  • medlocke · To my mind, Winter Memories is the class of the American turf fillies. More Than Real ran over her head in last year's BC Juvenile Fillies Turf, and hasn't reproduced anything close to that as a 3yr.old. I believe the Garden City Stakes will come down to a 2-horse affair between Winter Memories and the Brian Meehan trained, Theysken's Theory, who's coming over from the UK for the Garden City. Theysken's Theory tried conventional dirt in last year's BC Juvenile Fillies. But has proven to be far more effective on turf in the UK. She's won 2 of 3 starts so far in 2011. Including the Atalanta Stakes at Newbury last time out. · 254 days ago ·

Since this Filly ran big in the Alabama, I'm "smelling" a trifecta play in the Travers keying on the same trainer Tony Dutrow and his colt J W Blue. What does HRN members know about Tony Dutrow? I think J W Blue along with Stay Thirsty make trifecta keys in the Travers.

  • MichaelPavelick · "No Factor race" is a useful effort. In the proper company it keeps the horse racing sharp, but the lower effort by the horse also keeps him fresh. Dreamy Kid has worked on the grass twice since the WV derby. He will run HUGE in a graded grass race, proving the WV derby was just a work out. The epitome of "No Factor" races is Stay Thirsty races after the Gotham, and before the Belmont. I called him in the Belmont. You had to be a SUPER SHARP handicapper to realize Pletcher's conservative style made him stick to the original plan of saving Stay Thirsty for the Belmont (because of his Gotham victory that qualifies for the Belmont), and just letting him perform a "No Factor" race in the Kentucky derby after Uncle Mo scratched. · 277 days ago ·

  • MichaelPavelick · It also seems like the trainer of J W Blue has SAVED his immature colt for a LATER 3 year old CLASSIC race. This trainer came up with a BIG surprise in the Alabama with Pinch Pie. I'm interested in feedback about the Jockey Trainer combination on J W Blue? · 279 days ago ·

  • jinlie01 · Royal Delta in a romp...sat right behind the lead and made her move...lugged in badly but she still ran and was best. Too bad her odds were only 5-1 but I'll take the win. Looks like she's moving forward well and BC Distaff looks logical at end of year..Spinster or Beldame next? · 279 days ago ·
