What the Nation is saying about Personal Ensign...

This incredible filly is at #7? Unbeatable, winning multiple G1 races including the Breeder's Cup Lady's Classic. She beat Winning Colors- the last filly to the Kentucky Derby- twice. Ridiculous how Zenyatta and Rachel are in front of her.

Many racing fans are prepared to state emphatically that Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra are two of the best, if not THE best, fillies of the past half-century. The list from which to chose, however, is longer than most think. Below is a reminder just how extensive that list is. With almost half the y...Read More

They say perfection is unattainable, and as a practicing golf instructor, I’m inclined to agree, but maybe even if this is the sad reality for the human race, we can still strive to find perfection within our world. Perhaps a glimpse of our unattainable will be in store for us tonight when Black Cav...Read More

  • New York Vinnie · cocoa2 - many will never forget Landaluce. Me included. She was a sweet, black coated two year old filly out of Seattle Slew that captivated the west, having won five races by almost 50 lengths. She won her first race in 1:08 then came back a week later and won a Grade 1 race by 21 lengths in 1:08:1. Her last three races as a two year included race run in 1:21, 1:35 and 1:41. Uncle Mo, on the other hand, ran a 1:34.6 and and 1:42 in a mile and a mile and a sixteenth, and was considered the second coming of Spectacular Bid and Seattle Slew. Landaluce will never be forgotten. · 114 days ago ·

Personal Ensign is #28 on the fillies and mares rankings. This fantastic mare is the only thoroughbred we have ever seen to retire undefeated--since Colin in 1908. There can be no more courageous and gutsy performance than when Personal Ensign ran down Winning Colors in the 1988 Breeders Cup Distaff to win by a nose and retire at 13 straight. All this from a mare who fractured a hind leg as a two year old and continued racing with five screws in her leg. Watch the You Tube coverage of her last race and then vote on her accordingly. Great stuff!

  • airedale2008 · travel_vic: Yes, you are right about these 6 as they were never beaten. What I should have said is that Personal Ensign is the only horse here in the states who ran major races to have a planned undefeated retirement. Ruffian and Landaluce were swift as the wind. I wish both had continued racing to show us more of their greatness. Raise A Native developed a bowed tendon after four races and had to be retired. Lammtarra raced four times in Great Britain. Rare Brick had eight races of which four were stakes wins. Danzig won three before he was retired due to bad knees. Personal Ensign won two G2's and eight G1's. It seems that my post of yesterday discussing her exploits has bumped her from 28th all the way to 14th. Well deserved. · 157 days ago ·
