Espoir City, Japan’s hope for the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) to be run at Churchill Downs Nov. 6, drilled six furlongs over the Louisville track to lead a host of workouts on the morning of Oct. 23 from hopefuls for the two-day racing festival. • medlocke · Espoir City is a very talented colt to say the least. He lends a very good international flavor to this year's Breeders Cup Classic. 6 wins and 2 place efforts in 9 lifetime starts. 4 of his 6 win's are G1 victories. He likes to do his running on the front end, and his plenty of front running speed. I would expect to see Espoir City somewhere very near the front of the race along with Haynesfield and Quality Road. If there's a knock on this colt that could be called into question, it would be his stamina? How well, if at all, will Espoir City handle 10 furlongs? Of his 9 races on conventional dirt in Japan, Espoir City has raced 6 times at a mile, and 3 times at 9 furlongs. He's yet to ever attempt 1-1/4 in his career. The talent is certainly there for all to see with this colt. But the Breeders Cup Classic field, IMO, will be a very difficult first time testing ground to try and answer the 10 furlong question with? TJMO. · 967 days ago ·

  • gardenesque1 · '09 Horse of the Year had nothing to do with Rachel being better than Zenyatta. Rachel deserved the award because she had the best overall campaign. In reality, Zenyatta is superior to Rachel...especially in 2010. Jess Jackson realized that he had no shot against Zenyatta in the Apple Blossom after Rachel lost her 2010 opener to inferior competition, and the reigning HOY is still struggling to rediscover her '09 brilliance. Zen just keeps on winning. · 1016 days ago ·

From a trip-handicapper’s standpoint, Sunday’s Grade 1 Personal Ensign Stakes was a textbook play for an upset. You had all the right ingredients: Rachel Alexandra, a heavy favorite being asked to do something she’d never done before, carry her speed a mile and a quarter; a “now” horse ...Read More
