What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Ortensia...

Is Ortensia retired or active? And who will cover her? Answer me please.
Big race today for ortensia in the Oakleigh Plate carrying top weight she will come against barakey an unbeaten sprinter on 12 wins from western Australia hes being talked about as being superior to Miss Andretti and Scenic Blast. Also Shamal wind 3/3 with bottom weight should spice things up this is a massive race as one of these will probably be Black caviar's hardest test this year
More on Ortenisa's injury: Ortensia settled midfield and was unable to unleash her trademark sprint over the final 400 metres. But after the race it was discovered the mare had badly spliced her right fetlock. The injury means any chance of Ortensia pressing on to races in the US have now evaporated and she will return to Australia. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-09-09/injury-thwarts-ortensia-hat-trick-bid/4249988?section=sport
Ortensia's trainer, Paul Messara, is currently reporting the Racing Post that Ortensia suffered a nasty 1 inch long cut on her right fetlock today at Haydock during the G1 Sprint Cup. Messara said he believes that has a lot to do with Ortensia finishing a disappointing 12th of 13 in today's Sprint Cup.
  • yukichan · Thanks for reporting ILTR--I thought something was amiss...she looked like she was ready to fire, but disengaged quite suddenly, didn't she....Let's hope a quick recovery for her... · 256 days ago ·

Two of my favorite mares racing tomorrow...Ortensia faces tough competition, again, in the Sprint Cup--and a tough barrier draw. Potential spoilers are Strong Suit and Bated Breath. I believe her devasting turn of foot will prevail. And in the Irish Champion Stakes, Snow Fairy faces a short, but simply stellar field which include Nathaniel, St. Nicholas Abbey, Born To Sea, Light Heavy and Daddy Long Legs. I look for a Fairy tale ending for her!
  • AmbitiousD · Yuki, who do you like in the Champion Stakes? I am really pulling for Snow Fairy, but my gut is saying Nathanial is just looking too sharp these days · 256 days ago ·

  • yukichan · Happy ending I believe for Snow Fairy who should appreciate Leopardstown's short home stretch and the drying ground. Nathaniel, I think, likes a bit more cut and more distance. Mile and 1/2 I feel is his best--but that short stretch also not in his favor. Gosden has been cautious saying the Arc is the goal... Go Snow Fairy! Watch out for Born To Sea--he should do much better going back to blinkers on. · 256 days ago ·

With one persistent swoop towards the shadows of the post, the heart of one improving, excelling sprinter was broken as another reaped the reward that she had so richly deserved. Spirit Quartz may be the horse of tomorrow but today's Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes pronounced the Australian mare, ...Read More

  • yukichan · I played hookie again to watch her race live! According to TurfTrax sectionals, Ortensia was 17th (of 19) after 1f; 17th after 2f; 17th after 3f; 12th with 1f to go; and WON. She's a favorite of mine. How can you not like a mare that wins three Group 1′s in three different continents in nine months. And just look at that mug of her! · 271 days ago ·

Way to lay down your head and drive for the win!! Awesome! Spirit Quartz, Hamish Mc, I believe for third. Brilliant riding by Buick in a loaded 19 horse field. Absolutely brilliant performance!

  • yukichan · Bated Breath and Sole Power need a much faster going. I was very pleased that Ortensia covered the ground the way she did. She was flying the last furlong. · 271 days ago ·

  • yukichan · not faster pace wise--I meant firmer going. Turf too soft for either of them. · 271 days ago ·

Ortensia's win in the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes was nearly a carbon copy ride of her win in the G1 Al Quoz Sprint in Dubai back in March. Both were large field, 5f sprints, and in both races Ortensia was dropped out the back so as not encounter a lot of traffic problems. In both races, this mare really turned on the gas late in the final 100 meters and simply flew home!! Ortensia got an outstanding ride by jockey William Buick in this race at York today, IMO.
Fingers crossed that the rains stay away for Ortensia today. She faces stiff competition from Bated Breath in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
One for the Aussies! Ortensia powers her way home displaying her killer turn of foot I've been waiting to see again since Dubai to win the King George Stakes.
AN international success was widely forecast in the King's Stand Stakes but perhaps not via Little Bridge (Danny Shum/Zac Purton), who became the second Hong Kong-trained horse to win at the royal meeting when flooring a cosmopolitan field for the Group 1 sprint.Read More

Hello to all from Dubai. Normally, we are quick to put together post-race thoughts on the full gamut of activity from the 2012 Dubai World Cup, but given the emotionally charged nature of the day, both powerful and challenging, we thought it best to let our thoughts settle for some time. ORTENSIA came from last to first under a cool ride from Craig Williams to beat 2010 Nunthorpe Stakes winner Sole Power to add to the claims of Australian female sprinters ruling the world. The low-drawn runners set the pace, headed by Monsieur Joe, but the held-up pair Ortensia and Sole Power sprint...Read More
