What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Orfevre...

Orfevre settling into his new life - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy5R0UZCtZE
More pictures of Orfevre's arrival at Northern Farm. Evidently it was a longer than usual journey, having run into traffic problems which caused him to miss the ferry to Hokkaido. As you will see, comments indicate that he was at first hesitant to leave the van, surprised by the snow. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=798496490175998&set=a.798496386842675.1073741827.409661849059466&type=1&theater
A nice video summary of Orfevre's career (it is in Japanese, but pretty self explanatory) - http://web-cache.stream.ne.jp/web/jra/onetag/sub/player.html?movie=/jra_topics/2013/1222/orfevre_video&ua=4 .... he arrived at Shadai on December 25th - https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/1508547_609714339066263_538122752_n.jpg --- http://uma-furusato.com/var/cache/texttoimage/imageobject/c/2/3/c23f0f1075aa14745138ef62153106dc/.png .... and to no one's surprise, he is already booked full for 2014.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · Orfevre blasted the G1 Arima Kinen field, officially beating Win Variation in 2nd by 8 lengths and Gold Ship in 3rd by 9-1/2 lengths, scarcely even off the bridal at any point in the race. I'm anxious now to see what kind of # Timeform throws at Orfevre for his performance in the Arima Kinen? If it's a big #, and I suspect it will be, then you have to wonder if Treve's Arc win won't scale to new heights and possibly become one of the highest rated Arc wins ever? Given she soundly beat Orfevre by 5 lengths and Intello by 5-1/4 lengths, scarcely off the bridal herself that day at Longchamp. · 121 days ago ·

Very good gate draw for Orfevre--starting from six, while Gold Ship and Tosen Jorden will start from 14 and 16 respectively. Eishin Flash came up injured yesterday and has been retired. The Arima Kinen was to be TJ's last race anyway before. Orfevre, Desperado, Gold Ship...1-2-3
According to the JapanRacing.Jp web-site, Orfevre will be calling it a career and go off to stud after he runs in the G1 Arima Kinen in Japan on December 22nd. I was sort of hoping the connections might consider keeping Orfevre in training long enough to take a shot at the G1 Dubai Sheema Classic in late March, but you certainly can understand the decision to retire him, too. He really has no more to prove on the racetrack, as his greatness was sealed long ago.

  • Northport · Yeah, they said this after the arc but I was hoping maybe they would be swayed to keep him in training one more year. However, we are pretty lucky for them to have kept him him in training as a five year old, and he has had a very goos season regardless · 125 days ago ·

  • yukichan · I was fortunate to be in japan in 89 and 90 and a friend took me to the japan cup at Tokyo racecourse. It was an incredibly exciting experience and a big deal. I would compare to a playoff game or bowl game. In 89 a horlicks from NZ won it in world record time. Next year Better Loosen Up from AUS won it in second fastest time for race. Crowd went crazy both times. I became a fan and follower NZ and AUS horses... · 148 days ago ·

  • Euro Trash · @ILuvTurfRacing, yes. Criquette has said that previously, but it is a knife edge decision to wait until 4 yrs old, as many of the top 3 yr old fillies do not progress as 4 yr olds so they lose that weight advantage and then do not do as well. I think even with her inexperience, running as a 3 yr old is the best way to go if she is good enough. · 200 days ago ·
