  • AmbitiousD · And for all those following, I think I showed my dog Hunter too many replays of this year's Kentucky Derby. He did his best reenactment of Union Rags. Completely botched the start, got moving late, but not enough to win. I think I know how Matz must have felt. · 11 hours ago ·

I'm by no means an expert and I don't understand how rankings work here at HRN. With that said, how can Orfevre be ranked No. 6 after what happened last time out?

At that time Kyoto Racecourse was very hard, so that's why every turf corse time was really fast. After that, the following things became clear. Jaguar Mail(4th) fractured his left leg, Fateful War(13th) pulled his tendon, and Namura Crescent(9th) injuryed his fetlock joint.

Beat Black, the outsider of 18 horses, won the Tenno Sho Spring this afternoon by 4 lengths from Tosen Jordan. Third was, another 2 lengths behind, Win Variation with another neck away Jaguar Mail fourth. Orfevre, the 1.3 favorite, finished a disappointing 11th place. Read More
This is probably the race that I have been looking forward to the most ever since the Hanshin Daishoten (G2, 3000m) last month. Every since “Orfevre’s Wild Ride” took place I have been counting down the days till I get to see him again. What will he do? Read More

TURBO COMPRESSOR, a four-year-old trained by Todd Pletcher, blitzed high-end optional claimers in his turf debut to the tune of a 105 Beyer Speed Figure. A multiple stakes-winner on dirt at nine furlongs, Turbo Compressor set fractions of 23.21 and 47.19 while pressured by SLEEPLESS KNIGHT. Turbo Co...Read More

  • zxswordxz · Ok...I just take a quick look at the race. I don't understand why the jockey didn't let the horse run his race if the pace was too slow? Do what Ronny did with Secretariat in the Preakness and Belmont.....Can someone explain what the heck was going on on that race.... · 69 days ago ·

  • Cardly Knot · Still can't over this race. @zxswordxz, what i gather is Orfevre is just so full run/high cruising speed, he bolted and the rider kept him as calm as possible, then asked for his BIG KICK around the far turn. Had the bolting not occured, he wins by 20+Lengths, had the rider chose to ask for that much out of him. Got to hand it to the japanese with the filming of their races. Clearly Orfevre was valiant in defeat, not to speak of amazing. I can not think of another horse in training who could duplicate that. I was impressed before. Now I am in awe.

  • likin sparks · I watched the replays at different camera views and looks like something either scared him or distracted him, at first I thought there was an equipment issue but as he heads near the rail you can clearly see him tensing up. Amazing recovery to just miss the win. · 69 days ago ·

Had to watch that race 3 times, like he didn't know quite what to do without horses to direct him. Read that might have been what UnionRags was doing last year. And was Whirlaway just a bit freaked by the rail? And then there's Silky Sullivan, what just bored until it's a REAL challenge? Oh and Great site MaryZ, bed time reading.

  • cocoa2 · Union Rags looked like a 3 and ran like a 2. As for Silky any colt of his is nothing sadly. He wasn't anything at stud - worse than Kelso! haha · 70 days ago ·

  • AmbitiousD · Arthur Hancock III was very upset about selling Sunday Silence. But he could not raise enough money to counter the 10 million dollar cash offer from Japan. It would be great to get some Orfevre blood into the US though when he is retired. Rachel A seems to make a good mom :) · 124 days ago ·

Orfevre is being considered for both the Dubai World Cup and Sheema Classic by his connection's in Japan!! During the first 2 season's the Dubai World Cup has been held at the new Meydan facility on the tapeta surface, it's proven to be a surface that's a very acquired taste. Some horses really thrive on it, some struggle with it. IMO, for as mega-talented as I think Orfevre is, he could potentially run into a few horses that may have a faster turn of foot than he does on tapeta and at 10f in the Dubai World Cup. But if he goes 12f on the turf in the Sheema Classic, this horse win's that race without even breathing hard. He made pretty easy work of going about 5 wide, and just catapulting past the very best of the best horses in Japan in the G1 Arima Kinen. And under a hand ride, too. I never once saw Orfevre's jockey touch him with a whip throughout that stretch run. I think the Sheema Classic is clearly the choice for this colt.
  • AmbitiousD · I agree that he has a much better chance of winning in the Sheema. It would sure be fun to watch him square off against Animal Kingdom and Royal Delta in the World Cup though! · 148 days ago ·
