  • rafirox · This colt has interesting pace characteristics. He can close on slow paces (note: on the slowest, latest turf course in America in Fair Grounds). But, yesterday, surprisingly, his energy distribution was very much improved. He contested a fast pace of race, and he didn't cave into the pace pressure. He might have liked the off-going, yielding surface, BUT if he can COME CLOSE to the pace he ran at internally today: He will win a couple turf events this year. Despite being poorly handled and over-run, there are PLENTY of things to like about this TURF colt.... If only he were with a better trainer to stick by him, keep him on turf, place him strategically, and keep him healthy, he'd be a G1 Turf colt, without trouble. · 16 days ago ·

  • rafirox · This is actuually a very likeable colt. Why? He's run 19 times in the past 17 months. He's survived D. Wayne Lukas' 1980's training strategy (which most can't handle anymore) and he continues to improve. Not cut out, pace wise, to beat Wise Dan or Point of Entry yet, but, if he continues improvment, he could very well contend later in the year. · 16 days ago ·

on April 29, Optimizer worked 5F at Churchill Downs on Fast Dirt in 1:00.20 b finishing 1/20.
on April 21, Optimizer worked 4F at Churchill Downs on Fast Dirt in :48.60 b finishing 8/53.
Ill say this one more time with evidence to back it up. Fort Larned came back just fine and Optimizer beat him. So all in all not a bad choice to run him.

  • tmallios1 · the only reason optimizer ran in the race was the purse.we do not know if it were D. wayne or the owners making the call.they took a shot.no foul no harm.he is a black type graded winner on the turf.what if he fluked and ran 3rd.he then would of been a graded black type dirt horse.would of added to a possible future stud career.APF. he didn't have an off day,he is just not the same horse on dirt as he is on the turf.if you ask me,i think lukas knew this and maybe just wanted to step out of the box once.after all ,i think he did that with a horse called charismatic.that turned out ok for him.as far as him beating Ft. I didn't know the order, I didn't see the race, I just went by what northport said... This one has been screaming this since he was two: "I'M A TURF COLT!!!!"
