What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Odysseus...

Graded stakes winner Odysseus, a hot contender on this year’s Triple Crown trail, was euthanized Aug. 9 at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute near Lexington because of complications from laminitis while receiving treatment for colitis. The son of Malibu Moon hadn’t run since finishing unplaced in the ...Read More
Trainer Tom Albertrani is sitting on a trio of talented 3-year-old colts and the prospect of an exciting summer ahead.   Leading that group is Padua Stables’ lightly raced Odysseus, among the top 2010 Triple Crown prospects before going to the sidelines with a left knee injury after finishing ...Read More
Because no one else will tell you, not a single Wood Memorial alumnus has finished in the money in the Kentucky Derby since Funny Cide and Empire Maker in 2003. That's six years of blanks, 13 off-the-board finishes and an average placing of 10th. So before one more gas-blower tells you about how bad...Read More

  • cstphns20 · Four Triple Crown winners came from winning the Wood Memorial and that does not include Secretariat who finished third in the Wood. So what's the point? On May 1st the horse who runs the best race will win the Kentucky Derby. That's the way it has always been!! Just pick a horse you like, stay on his band wagon, bet on him to win and if he doesn't, try it again next year! · 661 days ago ·

Well, we finally have some semblance of a Kentucky Derby field, give or take a horse or two…or three. We’ve already lost Odysseus, Uh Oh Bango, and Aikenite in the span of two days. Noble's Promise is “50-50” depending on how he works, which in trainer language means he’s running as long as he doesn...Read More
A lot has happened over this past weekend in relation to the Kentucky Derby scene which has been drastically re-altered due to some very surprising race results. Stately Victor, a 40-1 outsider, ran down a game Paddy O'Prado to capture the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland Race Course on Saturday. The winner, a three-year-old colt by Ghostzapper, out of Dynaformer mare Collect The Cash, stopped the clock in 1:48.69 and paid $82.20 under Alan Garcia. He ...Read More

  • rossington · A 40-1 shot win's the Bluegrass Stakes, and a 17-1 shot win's the Arkansas Derby? How the hell is anyone supposed to be able to handicap the upcoming Kentucky Derby? LOL. I guess it would be safe just to play Eskendereya and Sidney's Candy. Beyond that, who know's who might jump up and win the roses this year? · 668 days ago ·

Trainer Mike Maker said April 11 that he has plotted a path for Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. Let's just say I made the right (or some would say wrong) move by sitting out yesterday's big Derby prep races and just watching for enjoyment. • bband · It seems like more horses will get shut out this year than in recent memory. What will be interesting is if Pletcher starts all 7 horses, fully knowing the lesser ones can't compete with his top runners. • gardenesque1 · I agree with Cigar that Interactif is versatile. Most of his races have been slow early/fast late, and that is not unusual in turf routes and synthetic races. I like the fact that his San Felipe pace figs when up but his final figure did not take a dip, which is a sign of an improving horse. Notice that he ran on the dirt twice, and in those two starts his pace figs exceeded his late/final speed ratings, which is the norm for conventional dirt sprints. All that being said, I would like to see Interactif take back and make a run because that style worked so well for him in a pair of Graded turf route wins last year. · 671 days ago ·
