Is it true that Nonios is retired?

Anyone know how my main man and Travers pick, Nonios, is recovering? Is he continuing training soon? Has he started training yet, maybe?

  • rafirox · Nonios, one of my personal favorites in the crop of 2012 and also my 2012 Travers pick, has been retired. Nonios will stand in Canada at Colebrook for roughly $2,000 (in Canadian funds). Nonios will be back! At Pegasus Training Center. He is back working and on the mend. Doing great.

  • travel_vic · go back to the barns. On the wall of each trainer's office (MOST, I should say not all) is the INDIVDUAL schedule of each animal in the barn TAILOR made to the needs that horse has shown the trainer it requires. Some need lots of work, others need education...There are never two exactly the same and the trainer usually says nothing about the differences. · 371 days ago
Sad to hear he is injured. Is he coming back, eventually???? Sadly, I don't think he will.
DRF is reporting that Nonios is injured and will likely be out for several months. Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer did not disclose details of the injury but said it was not a fracture or bowed tendon. Best wishes to his horse for a quick recovery.
  • yukichan · Does not sound trivial as article said could make it back by end of year... · 553 days ago
  • Mary Z. · This is horrible news. I wish him a full recovery and return to the races. · 553 days ago
I have a feeling he's really going to blossom next year. If my predictions are correct he'll be outstanding. I really like this horse. He seems to excel at distances of 9 or 10 furlongs. Classic next year maybe?
  • annmatt · Pleasantly Perfect, Nonios' daddy, didn't start making much noise until as a 5 and 6 yr old. Nonios at 3 appears to be running a year or two ahead of his daddy, with some very respectable placings in graded stakes including seconds in a couple of G1s. It will be fun to watch how Nonios matures at 4. I look for him to break out with some big wins in 2013! · 566 days ago
I prayed to the lord he will be back next year, stronger than ever. Anyone knows if he will be running next year or not?
This boy helped me cash today! Solidly improving STILL! He could be a very could handcap horse next year.

  • rafirox · Ran his heart out today, very proud of the way he fought. On the far turn, he fell back two lengths, then came up again, the fell again. Ran his heart out. I was so impressed with how badly he wanted it, when he got whipped, he responded, and he did whatever Martin told him to. I loved it. · 587 days ago
  • cleclair1994 · I started following this horse when he scratched out of the derby trial earlier this year, and then I bet him when he came back in the affirmed, and been a huge fan ever since. I went to see him at the travers and this horse is impressive even though he didn't run the greats and IMO got a bad ride from jonny v. This horse is going to be really good. · 587 days ago
I have my doubts about his ability to get 10 furlongs, but headed into the 2013 season, I'd take Nonios in a heartbeat over Game On Dude. GoD beat him fair and square today, regardless of the bump going into the clubhouse turn. That said, Nonios has done a ton in a short amount of time. Freshen him up, give him some time to finish off his development, and we could have a very serious racehorse on our hands. I trust Hollendorfer knows what's best for the boy. Give him a breather, then get a prep in him and point toward the Big Cap.
He ran a very good second, almost too good to lose!
nonios will be entered in the classic
He capped off a nice betting day for me! I had him $20 PS and $5 to win. That one was a loser. But I still made dough off him placing. AND I had exacta $20 Him and Game On Dude. That didn't pay much though. I liked him because, if you noticed in the PP's the handicapper comment was " 3 wide into turn, no kick." The cut back was biig. And despite that he only lost by 4 lengths at the Travers. PLUS he was going back to the CA speedy surfaces which I think favor him. He was second best, and he did enough to get me some cash. Overall on the day: 13 races bet, 9 winning races.
So is he going to the IN Derby...??
Will go in the Awesome Again Stakes! I think he will do what Dullahan did and take down Game On Dude.
He's obviously improving. Hope to see him in the Travers.
