One of the heaviest favorites on Breeders' Cup weekend last fall was WINTER MEMORIES (El Prado [Ire]), the regally-bred gray who entered the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G2) undefeated off a 5 1/4-length waltz in the Miss Grillo S. We’re less than three weeks away from the 27th Breeders’ Cup, contested over two days at Churchill Downs on November 5th and 6th.  Each week leading up to it I’ll run down my top 5 in each division, which will be updated based on defections and different choices made by connections.  Here’...Read More

  • humphrey · The big weekend has not happened as yet with the International coming up. This was Secreariats' final race when Eddie Maple said "that damned horse cornered so fast I nearly fell off!" · 613 days ago ·

  • medlocke · humphrey, I remember Secretariat's last race in the Patteson Canadian International very well. On the turf at Woodbine, and Kennedy Road, a great Canadian colt, was being played up as the horse that would really test Secretariat on the turf. I also remember Eddie Maple got the mount because Ron Turcotte was serving a suspension at the time. I've heard Eddie Maple remark several times in interviews through the years that getting the mount on Secretariat for the PCI was hell on his nerves. He said he was really worried that he was going to be remembered as the jockey that got Secretariat beaten in his final race. LOL. As it turned out, Secretariat handled Kennedy Road with quite a bit still in hand at the wire. · 595 days ago ·

The performance of the week was turned in by Jaycito. The Mike Mitchell runner turned the tables on J P’s Gusto in the Norfolk despite racing wide throughout. I am getting an early start in my first in a series of blogs devoted to 2011 Kentucky Derby hopefuls. There will be many twists and turns in the coming weeks and months, and the majority of horses on this initial list will almost certainly fall by the wayside. For my 2010 Derby list, I posted my Top...Read More

Filly has the makings of a classy miler over turf and possibly other surfaces. She’s a half sister to stakes placed Distorted Economy and her dam won the 1 ½ mile La Prevoyante Handicap (G-2) over turf. Additionally, her dam is a half sister to the dam of Noble Causeway, winner of last year’s Breeders' Futurity (G-1) at Keeneland. New Normal’s third through fifth dams are blue hens. She has Rasmussen factor inbreeding to the great turf mare Flower Bowel through her sons His Majesty and Graustark, who are full brothers.
  • mdracing69 · New Normal pulled off a sharp wire job tally in the Natalma (1:36.51), and she ran much faster than Summer Stakes hero Pluck (1:37.70). · 617 days ago ·
