Mylute returned to the track for the first time since finishing third behind Oxbow and Itsmyluckyday in the Preakness (GI) and jogged beneath the Twin Spires under Maurice Sanchez shortly after the track opened for training at 6 a.m. on Friday. “He’s doing well and everything went well this morning,” trainer Tom Amoss said. The next start for Mylute has not been determined; however, it will not be the Belmont (GI) on June 8.
With racing's Middle Jewel only five days away, it is becoming crystal clear that Orb is the one they all have to beat.Read More

  • patrick.l.mccaslin · The preakness was a better distance for Oxbow then the KD, plus he had the one spot at churchill. But I will not be using him or any other horse for that matter, Orb included to finish in the top 3 spots at the Belmont. Horses that have raced in both are going to be at a huge dis advantage going into the Belmont. They have raced twice in the last month and it will show come belmont. Also Oxbow in my opinion cannot go 1-1/2. especially on the front end. So all that have raced in both the KD and Preakness are pitches for me. There will be some well rested ones that will do better in this race! · 1 day ago ·

This guy keeps getting better, despite the the wide trip in the Preakness his run was impressive.
  • Sullivan · Mylute has been running wide trips all his life, from Arlington to Pimlico. He is a very impressive horse in that he was a competitive juvenile (breaking his maiden, beating Hightail while running third in the Delta Downs Jackpot and ending the year with a solid 10 3/4 lengths romp over allowance company). He started his three year old year with a less than perfect stakes race, running unplaced in the Risen Star, but it is clear that was a fluke as he rushed up to be second in the Louisiana Derby. His Derby race was a great one, and he came from the farthest back even though he is not a dead closer and can stalk the pace with skill. His Preakness was a true testament to his ability when Rosie asked him early and he responded. He was dead last until the far turn where he efficiently made up a lot of ground and was beaten a nose out of second. I am VERY proud to call him my horse of 2013. There is nothing this horse can't do. · 4 days ago ·

1. Orb (Malibu Moon) – Tabasco Cat is the only horse in the last 41 years to win the Preakness Stakes from post one and Orb likes to make wide, sweeping moves. If he is a legit Triple Crown threat the inside post will not bother him and Rosario continues to ride great. I have always liked Shug’s col...Read More

  • LaurieRoss · Govenor Charlie's dam was unraced. His second dam, Silverbulletday won the Miss Preakness stakes. His second tail sire Real Quiet (the sire of Govenor Charlie's sire, Midnight Lute) won the Preakness Stakes. However, tracing directly back through only his female line (dam, second dam, third dam, etc.) only one horse produced by this female family has won the Preakness. I hope that clarifies it for you CauseForConcern · 6 days ago ·

  • CauseForConcern · Thanks, Laurie, that helps me understand a lot better. I think the first part of my confusion was the name of Gov Charlie's dam(SilverbulletWay, not SilverbulletDay). An oversight on my part. Thanks, again, Laurie. · 6 days ago ·

Considering that Mylute, out of all the Derby contenders returning to take another shot at Orb, finished closest to that rival in the Derby, maybe, just maybe Rosie’s familiarity with the track will give them an edge to at least finish second to, if not beat, the Derby winner.Read More

  • Cocoa · How is Rosie a good fit for Mylute? Previously when the two started working out together, Mylute used to perk up with her. He has toned that down now. In a race like this, the smaller the field the more tactical riding. Aaron Gryder understands pace and tactics better than Rosie does · 7 days ago ·

  • forego139 · In this case this is not like the Ky. Dby. so therefore IMO post 1 is not a big deal, if the horse is good enough he will win, especially at 1 3/16th. Orb is coming into the Preakness like no other Derby winner has since Affirmed and Sat. will tell the story. I wish him and the connections well and may everyone in the race have a safe trip. · 7 days ago ·
