Are there any Musket Man babys in fole?
Thank you icyhotboo for remembering Musket Man. I realize you where just making a point about Quality Road but it does give me a good feeling that you mentioned him. Ive been away awhile but Ill be back.

  • nayla1268 · YES, YES Great horse also finished third in the preakness.I never thought I would miss a horse but I was wrong!! I guess its because the FEIN/RYAN combo is having such a poor year. · 1049 days ago
  • nayla1268 · i do believe Schoolyard Dreams has a future on the Turf! · 1049 days ago
This is one of the best horses to not win a G1. Always there in second but could never cross first.
I am so sorry to hear that Musket Man is retired. But I am forever grateful that you brought him to Tampa Bay and into my life. Hope to see you soon at the Downs.

  • icyhotboo · nayla1268 I owned horses from 1970 to 1994 , almost exclusively standardbreds except for some cheap claimers that ran at Finger Lakes.I bought everything from claimers, private sales, went to the sales (standardbreds) and would have loved to have a horse the caliber of Musket Man.The closest I got to getting a good one was at the meadowlands sales.I was at the sale when On The Road Again purchased although it didn't come to my attention until years later when he started to run. · 1253 days ago
Will tommorow be the day Musket ends all the critisism about getting the job done. I sure hope so!! Good Luck Derek and Eric! See you in the winners circle.

  • blooy · i just think he has had his crashes as expected, we knew breeders cup was to long for him and the next race he would still be tired from that. long as he has had time to recover and the distance is fitting, he should be okay. i can see your point though. · 1285 days ago

I can see today MM is a possible entry fir the cigar mile on Saturday. Can this be the G1 we have been waiting for? If there is a racing god,{and i do believe it} Let him shine down on this colt!!!

Thanks for the thrill Musket!!! The connections need to bring him back for his 5 year old campaign and win that G1 missing from his reseme
  • mike · great horse... hope he came out of race well.... seems like all these great horses get retired after there 4yo season and go to stud... i agree it would be amazing to see him come back for his 5yo campaign... i hear his owner is a great guy... i hope he grants our wish... this horse always tries his heart out and he will win some grade 1s if back in 11...... · 1351 days ago
Two more days!! Can't wait. Has anyone seen a posted work since MM arrived tuesday?
6 days away from proving all the Musket Man haters wrong! I cant wait to see us go right by Quailty Road and hold off the late closing Looking at Lucky. Forget the Z mare, this is a field of broken dreams for her!!! No synthetic either!!!!

Love the move he made in his last. Pinned on the rail, chasing a ridiculously slow pace. MM made a sweeping 4-wide move and caught up to the leader Etched with a few hundred yards to go and was nostrilized at the wire. The way he wound up around the turn seemed like a dress rehearsal for that same move he'll need at the infamous Churchill Downs strip, to win this race. Break out your muskets, cause here comes the man!
So nice to see Musket Man move up so much in the HRN rankings!!! After nov.6th he will be #1

  • mike · im in total agreement..its been an unlucky year for Musket Man... sheet wise ,, he fits perfectly with this group and with a little luck as usual he will be at the wire hopefully in front but if not this warrior will be right there.... · 1364 days ago
  • mike · and the people who put Haynesfield ahead of him,, u guys and gals got to be kidding... · 1364 days ago
Ranking is way to low. All this horse does is finish in the $$ in grade 1 after grade 1. This is a top 5 horse. If he isnt on your ticket, no matter which race he enters in the BC you deserve to lose! Awsome horse.

  • NJTrader · Musket Man has no shot in the classic and anyone who has the slightest idea about horse racing knows this. He reminds me of First Dude and in some way that's a good thing, however, he will never win a big race just like First Dude. This horse is a must play in the tri or super but that's about it. · 1378 days ago
  • cugel the clever · Finishing in the top 4 in this year's Classic will be a major accomplishment given the quality of the field. · 1378 days ago
Another graded stakes, on the board once again, but can't get the "W".
13 for 13 on the board in races from six furlongs to ten furlongs including the Kentucky Derby and the Met Meil. This guy is a warrior!

  • mike · the connections of Musket Man should be applauded for being the only group to actually try to win the race and were not intimidated by Quality Road being in the race.... I have no clue what Ramon Dominguex · 1443 days ago
  • mike · was doing out there but if you say in print we will not change our horses style for anyone then y are you choking your horse through a half in 48....Musket Man obviously isnt a speed stalker no matter how slow the fractions and kudos to that group for trying to take it to QR otherwise thy would have gone in 50 and Blame would have been screwed.. I think the owners of Blame should thank the MM crew for giving there horse any shot at beatin QR.. It was MM who made the race for QR...If the positioning was changed and they sent Blame after QR , MM probably would have won..... Thx MM for always showing up anywhere and at every distance and showing the world what a real horse does EVERYTIME...... · 1443 days ago
I'm so glad to see Musket Man back racing and competing again. I truly felt, in 2009 as a 3yr.old, that Musket Man was the "Rodney Dangerfield" of the Triple Crown contenders. He didn't "get any respect." I sure did alright by him though. I played him on an across the board ticket in both the 2009 Kentucky Derby, and the 2009 Preakness Stakes. I just felt that after watching him win the 09' Tampa Bay Derby and the 09' Illinois Derby that he had a lot of potential, and was being very overlooked in favor of horses like Pioneer of The Nile, Dunkirk, Friesan Fire, and others. He looked to be back to his previous form winning the Super Stakes in February. I'd really like to see Musket Man get a chance to have a "breakout" 4yr.old campaign, and maybe be in the starting gate at Churchill Downs in November for the 2010 Breeders Cup Classic. I don't know if he'll progress enough to accomplish that or not, be he certainly, IMO, has the potential to. TJMO.
  • musket man · IMO Musket Man could turn out to be the best 4 yo that walked into the KY Derby gate last year. Look for him in the Carter Handicap next then possibly the Met Mile, Whitney, Woodword, Jockey Club and either Classic or Dirt Mile. Make no mistake about it though, the connections are looking towards Churchill in November as they should be · 1583 days ago
Musket Man won the Super stakes at 2-5 at Tampa today. Will be interesting to see where he goes next.
Really looking forward to seeing Musket Man back in action! He can be a serious player in the handicap ranks this year.
I am fond of Musket Man. Nothing wrong with his tactical speed and winning spirit. Renews his rivalry with General Quarters in the Derby. The Tampa horses are talented.
