What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Musir...

I gotta throw out some major kudos to this horse. 2013 makes Musir's 4th different Dubai Carnival appearance, and though this year may not be the best we've ever seen Musir at Meydan, he's still showing that hugely competitive nature he's always had. He came into this year's carnival from a layoff of nearly 10 months, plus a failed attempt at stud. Any trainer will tell you there's never anyway of knowing what to expect from a horse who's been reactivated to race after being in the stud barn. Thrown into G2 company right out of the gate he runs 4th in his 2013 debut in the G2 Al Fahidi Fort, and it took a mighty performance from Trade Storm to run Musir down in the late stages of the G2 Zabeel Mile in his second race. This horse really is a class act. If they decided to put Musir back into retirement again tomorrow this horse owes nobody a thing.
Has returned to Mike De Kock to prepare for the 2013 Dubai Winter Carnival after low fertility while standing at Coolmore Australia in 2012
Musir has been retired to become one of Coolmore-Australia's newest stallions for the 2012 breeding season. His Timeform rating of 126 makes him the highest rated son of Redoute's Choice standing stud. God's Own is behind Musir with a Timeform rating of 124, with both Snitzel and Stratum rated 123 by Timeform.

Am I excited about the Dubai World Cup card? Let me answer it this way ... The eight big races carry a combined purse of $27 million. I say this with my pinkie finger devilishly pointing to the corner of mouth. While the really big money is not available to us, the great card does provide many inter...Read More

Really a tuf choice between musir and mahbooba but i will go for mahbooba bcouz he is my hero
  • ILuvTurfRacing · This is seriously good horse. Flip a coin to decide if his win 2 weeks ago on the tapeta surface in the G3 Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 1 was anymore impressive than his win today on turf in the G2 Al Rashidiya was? Musir's been by far the most impressive horse in Dubai in 2012. If his form had been this strong in Dubai a year ago, I'm not so sure he would've finished 2nd to Skysurfers in the Firbreak Stakes or to Twice Over in the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 3? If this level of form continues, he'll be a load for any of them in the G1 Duty Free come March, IMO. · 814 days ago ·

Dubai: Godolphin’s Mendip was denied a slice of UAE racing history when he was beaten to fourth place by Musir in opening round of the Al Maktoum Challenge (Group 3) on day three of the Dubai World Cup Carnival at Meydan racecourse yesterday. The son of Harlan’s Holiday was bidding to become the firs...Read More
  • ILuvTurfRacing · Musir was as impressive as it gets winning the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd.1 at Meydan on Thursday!! IMO, he looked better in this race than he did a year ago in any of his 3 tapeta surface starts in the Firebreak Stakes, Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 3, or the Dubai World Cup. His stablemate, Master of Hounds, also ran a really big race for 2nd. He closed like a shot. I think MOH is really gonna appreciate the step up in trip from a mile in future races at Meydan. Trainer Mike De Kock told the Racing Post and DubaiRaceNight that he believes Musir is even better on turf than he is on tapeta, and he sited Musir's impressive win in Turkey in the G2 International Topkapi Trophy, and his outstanding run in the Champions Mile in Hong Kong as the source. De Kock suggested that a surface switch to turf is liking coming for Musir at the Carnival, because he wants to run Musir in the Dubai Duty Free on world cup night. Taking Musir off of tapeta is certainly not going to hurt Mike De Kock's chances of winning the two remaining Al Maktoum Challenge races, or the Dubai World Cup since he still has Master of Hounds, who I think will be better at 10f, and he hasn't even rolled out his big gun yet, Bold Silvano. · 828 days ago ·

  • ILuvTurfRacing · Provided everyone performs the way they're supposed to, and barring any injuries, as near as I can tell, it's looking like Mike De Kock is gonna be going with Zanzamar in the Godolphin Mile, Musir and River Jetez in the Duty Free, Irish Flame and Mahbooba in the Sheema Classic, and Master of Hounds and Bold Silvano in the Dubai World Cup. Haven't found out yet who De Kock's top horses for the 2 G1 sprints will be? As for the newly added G3 Dubai Gold Cup on world cup night, I know he has both Star Empire and Equipirada in Dubai right now, so my those 2 would be guess to be his DGC entries. · 828 days ago ·

A top class weekend of racing in the UAE came to a close on Friday afternoon with a handy six-race meeting at Jebel Ali, replete with storylines.  But the main talk of the 13-races over the last two days was Musir’s tidy victory in the Maktoum Challenge – R1 (G3).  The son of Redoute’s Cho...Read More

  • medlocke · A much deserved G1 success for Xtension winning the G1 Champions Mile at Sha Tin on Monday. Prior to this win, Xtension's only stakes win had been in the G2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood in 2009. But Xtension is a colt that's run huge races in the Coventry Stakes, Dewhurst Stakes, English 2000 Guineas, Irish 2000 Guineas, Prix Jean-Prat, Prix Eugene Adam, Hong Kong Classic Cup, and the Hong Kong Derby. Xtension's worst finish in all of those stakes had been 5th in the 09' Irish 2000 Guineas, and two 4th place finishes in the 2010 Prix Eugene Adam and the 2011 Hong Kong Classic Cup. In all his other starts, being the Coventry Stakes, Dewhurst Stakes, English 2000 Guineas, Prix Jean-Prat, and the Hong Kong Derby. Xtension had run 2nd or 3rd. So this is definitely a talented colt that's been overdue a big win like this in his career. Xtension now hold's an entry to return to the UK from Hong Kong in June for the G1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal-Ascot. Where he would be facing the likes of Goldikova, Canford Cliffs, and possibly Dick Turpin. · 1091 days ago ·

  • medlocke · This year's Dubai World Cup really served to remind me how much I truly miss the race being run on the conventional dirt at Nad Al Sheba. Victoire Pisa had to come 5 or 6 wide to forge to the front early just to inject any pace at all into the race, as it was run at a terrible dottle. That move turned out to be the best tactical move of the race. As Victoire Pisa took the lead and never looked back. · 1120 days ago ·

  • ajump08 · medlocke, just like the Derby these trainers for the most part don't want a peak performance before the big day. Godolphin doesn't wan't to overdue it with him, but I do question if Mendip as good at 10 furlongs as 8 furlongs. He should definitely win his race though with division leader Skysurfer skipping this one and training up to the Godolphin Mile. · 1146 days ago ·
