  • jimandcarrie.kenney · I say that he'll mature into a nice dirt horse. I don't see him doing anything spectacular in the derby though because he's not used to the dirt. I thought it was a poor decision of McGaughey's to push Mr Speaker to the Bluegrass and then onto the derby. · 8 days ago ·
  • audy · Really sorry he doesn't start. Looked like a fairly easy win, even the derby looked good for him. With all those speedy horses upfront... I don't understand horse racing... but sad am I, yes, took some of the excitement out of a great week-end. · 6 days ago ·

  • audy · Loved his race, though sorry he lost. But thought his way of racing looked more mature. Seems to like bring up with the boys to have fun. Really started looking as if he enjoyed racing. Would he want to run int the Swirl or is that too soon? · 44 days ago ·
  • audy · Maybe I should go away for his next race.... · 44 days ago ·

Mr Speaker will get back on turf for the $150,000 Palm Beach Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park Saturday. The dark bay colt made a dashing rally up the fence to win the $100,000 Dania Beach Stakes (G3) on the sod in December, but trainer Shug McGaughey opted to experiment with the main track for the $40...Read More

  • Sully · Storming Inti looks tough. Who can run with him early? Looking for a gate-to-wire win from the rail. · 47 days ago ·
  • jinlie01 · Storming Inti is definitely the lone speed/pacesetter..I can see him controlling the pace throughout but with his expected short price and hoping Gala Award applies some pressure...taking a shot with Mr. Speaker (he can be in stalking position) and intrigued with Smart Cover's return. · 47 days ago ·
Looks like he may go the Dullahan route (Palm Beach/Blue Grass) to the Derby.

  • shackleford · As for Mr. Speaker, I am simply speculating as to the path he may be on. I definitely think he deserves a shot on dirt again. · 48 days ago ·

  • slewcrew77781 · CP was passed by most of the field after the wire. He can probably beat this bunch all day long at this distance - provided he gets the same setup. But that's really not saying much. · 75 days ago ·

Trainer Shug McGaughey is still sorting out the pecking order of his 3-year-old colts, but Top Billing stamped himself as one to watch further down the Triple Crown trail. noticed something interesting...according to the entries on DRF Mr Speaker will be running WITHOUT lasix. Is this true? I find it odd that it seems like Shug usually runs his two year olds without lasix and then when they run at three he uses lasix. Can anyone explain this? I'll be honest, I am a fan of horses running without lasix.
Shug McGaughey is set to saddle Mr Speaker for Saturday’s $400,000 Holy Bull (G2), an important prep race on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, but the Hall of Fame trainer could well come up with another prospect for the spring classics earlier on the 11-race program. Read More
