The Champagne runner-up is off the Derby trail. “He’s on the shelf for now,” said Dutrow. “He just wasn’t doing that good so we backed off him and sent him out to the farm in Kentucky. He won’t be able to make the Derby.”
Worked well today (Dec.30th/10), six furlongs in 1:13 flat. I think Rick is high on this horse for aiming him for the Fountain Of Youth off of a layoff, and there will likely be tough company. I think this horse could suprise a few people.
Trainer Rick Dutrow Jr. has mapped out a tentative schedule for Kentucky Derby (G1) prospects BOYS AT TOSCONOVA (Officer) and MOUNTAIN TOWN (Cape Town), who are both slated to race at Gulfstream Park this winter.Read More
  • 12 Clip · This colt should be primed for a big year. Think the one turn mile will serve him very well in the G3 Holy Bull Stakes. I do believe he'll need another race between the Holy Bull and Florida Derby. But that'll be up to Dutrow to figure out. · 1208 days ago ·

  • humphrey · Very good shot to win it but Buffum has never been really tested so that one is an unknown. 3, Mountain Town can press along with Bandbox which leaves then Mucho Macho Man to try to run down the heavy choice later. · 1241 days ago ·
Mountain Town has a pedigree slanted to speed, although His dam is a graded stakes placed half sister to Belmont Stakes winner Birdstone and Kentucky Oaks winner Bird Town his second dam Dear Birdie was the 2004 Broodmare of the Year.

Uncle Mo turned in another dominating performance in the Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park on October 9th. CHAMPAGNE (G1) QUOTES   Todd Pletcher, winning trainer of Uncle Mo (No. 1): “He’s obviously a very fast and talented horse and it looked as if he was doing it easily.
