  • travel_vic · it is a wonder these two hemisphere stallions don't die sooner than they do · 872 days ago
  • AmbitiousD · Very interesting point, TV. Its and increased injury risk to cover a mare as is, but when you do it 2x a year + travel + immune system shock every 6 months, it seems like there is a significantly increased risk to the stallion. · 872 days ago
confirmed she has been retired after her loss in the Hong Kong Mile.
Moonlight Cloud, Magician, and Horse of the Year, Treve, are the big winners at this year's Cartier Racing Awards.
I just recently removed Moonlight Cloud from the list of BC Mile possibles and I see that someone has added her name again. For the record, HRTV's Millie Ball spoke with trainer Freddie Head via telephone for the show Pursuit of the Cup, and the entire conversation was played on that show. Freddie Head said that Moonlight Cloud "will not" be coming back to Santa Anita this year for the BC Mile. He said that he and owner George Strawbridge have decided instead to send her to Sha Tin this year to run in the G1 Hong Kong Mile. Trainer Richard Hannon is also considering his star filly, Sky Lantern, for that race, too.

  • Northport · They said last week that she would bypass the BC mile in favour of Sha Tin · 958 days ago
  • jonquil · Ahh, that's probably when I heard it. · 958 days ago
Moonlight Cloud will not make the trip to Santa Anita for the Breeders' Cup because the "turns are too sharp and the ground too fast."

  • Northport · Makes sense. The next race she is in will be her last, I can see a trip to Hong Kong being more appealing · 966 days ago
  • AmbitiousD · Larger purse and no Wise Dan. I think the question will be which of the Hong Kong and Japan horses show up. Not a walk in the park, but I'm quite excited at the prospect of a Glorious Days, Moonlight Cloud, Ambitious Dragon matchup. · 966 days ago
Moonlight Cloud's performance just as electrifying as Treve's! How lucky is Thierry! Blows by all in the Prix de la Floret...

  • Euro Trash · She had a very rough trip last year and gave up. They do not ant a repeat on a tight course. · 967 days ago
Came From the back to beat Gordon Lord Byron in the Prix De La Foret!
While she is not quite Goldikova great, if she comes to the BC in top form I would guess it will be game over for POE.

  • Euro Trash · At this time it does look that way. There is still time for horses to drop out, though. · 986 days ago
This girl is proving now that finishing so close to Black Caviar wasn't just because of Luke Nolens riding error... It was no fluke.
Moonlight Cloud wins the G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois at Deauville. Olympic Glory was 2nd with Intello finishing 3rd. On down the line it was Declaration of War 4th, Dawn Approach 5th, Elusive Kate 7th, and Aljamaaheer 8th. The win sucures Moonlight Cloud a "win and your" spot for the BC Mile. As long she declares for the race by October 21th she'll have her $40,000 suplemental fee paid and she'll receive a $40,000 travel allotment to come to Santa Anita.

  • kaitlinefree1 · its amazing at how good she is, & even more amazing that there was a mare that was even better than her. · 1024 days ago
  • jonquil · Ah, but Moonlight Cloud can win at a mile while the amazing Black Caviar was a sprinting specialist only. Both *very* impressive, I think! :) · 1024 days ago
allez allez need i say more :P
Trainer Freddy Head told Racing Post that the Breeder's Cup unlikely for Moonlight Cloud, could retire after Prix de la Foret on Arc day.
Best miler in Europe? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhI9Um-ubhI

  • Euro Trash · Farhh is a fragile horse, and she did h=beat him last year. Not sure what would happen this year. I think the 3 yr olds have comparable form and they will get a weight advantage, I believe. Just like the weight advantage the 3 yr old Goldikova got from the older Darjina and Goldikova just beat her. She will be a great price, and the bet is a smart one, to be sure. · 1059 days ago
  • ILuvTurfRacing · Moonlight Cloud may be one of the best 6-1/2 or 7f horses in Europe, but she's not close to being the best miler, IMO. She would rank a ways down my list of the best milers in Europe right now. I would have her behind, in no particular order, Intello, Farhh, Dawn Approach, Toronado, & Declartion of War. I don't think Moonlight Cloud would beat any of the afore mentioned over a mile if they ran to their very best. · 1031 days ago
easy peasy .

  • jonquil · Awesome. Can't wait! And no working late that day so I won't have to miss that race~ · 1031 days ago
  • ILuvTurfRacing · @paul.nathan.946, Godolphin have had an entry for awhile now for Dawn Approach to run in the Prix Jacques La Marois, but I read where Richard Hannon said post-Sussex Stakes that Toronado won't be going to Deauville for the race because he feels like it's coming too soon on the back of his run in the Sussex Stakes. That's not to say that people certainly can't change their minds, but that is the last bit of info concerning those 2 possibly going to France that I've read. · 1031 days ago
Moonlight Cloud wins her 3rd consecutive renewal of the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville, beating Lethal Force in 2nd by 1-3/4 lengths with a further 3/4 lengths back to Gordon Lord Byron in 3rd.
returns in about 3hours
Will be racing in the silks George Strawbridge's Augustin Stable on Saturday in the BC Mile instead of Strawbridge's usual European silks.
BC bound.... Trainer Freddy Head is eager to try Moonlight Cloud in the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT), a race his star mare Goldikova made her own. Head told reporters, "She will miss the (Prix de la) Foret (Fr-I) and go to Santa Anita. She could maybe stay in training at 5 but I'll have to talk to (owner) George Strawbridge about that." • buckpasser · Footy and I were just discussing this on another thread. She would be a nice addition to the proceedings. Also since she is owned by American George Strawbridge, I think it would be a distinct possibility · 1351 days ago
This 4 yr old mare, second by a short head to Black Caviar, shows Farhh (2bd) the way to the finish in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp. Only a 4 horse field.
