I recently sent the good folks at Coolmore/Balldoyle a message inquiring as to the racing status in 2012 of both Misty For Me and Wonder of Wonders? I got a response from them today which said both have been retired to broodmare status. Misty For Me just recently covered by Fastnet Rock. But no word yet on whether she's in foal or not, and Wonder of Wonders breeding plan is still under discussion. I suspected that retirement might be the case for both of them? Because Coolmore kind of has an unwritten rule of retiring their fillies who've had a measure of success after 3yr.old season. They believe their best broodmare years are early on. They did it with Again after her 3yr.old season in 2009. She had been a G1 Moyglare and G1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner. And they also did it with Lillie Langtry after her 3yr.old season in 2010. With wins in the G1 Coronation Stakes and G1 Matron Stakes. Now Misty For Me and Wonder of Wonders joins the list of talented fillies retired after their 3yr.old season.

But Misty For Me had an extremely wide PP draw to overcome, plus she stumbled down to her knees coming out of the gate, and nearly went completely down, and she was still still closing like a shot. Aidan O'Brien has scratched Misty For Me out of Saturday's G1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood. Sighting that he believes the ground at Goodwood will be too fast for her on Saturday. The race still has 6 entries, including Midday, Snow Fairy, and Crystal Capella.

If Mikhail Barzelona mistimes his ride at Epsom on Pour Moi by even a second, we're looking at a dual Derby winner in Treasure Beach. And if history has taught us anything, it's that only special 3yr.old colt's win both the Epsom and Irish Derbies.
