  • dani.pugh · Bernardini raced seven times. Blame ran 5 and was beaten badly in the Gold Cup. He beat some very very good horses, but he did it on a light schedule. Bernardini won the Withers, Preakness, Jim Dandy, Travers, and Gold Cup, and was second to a great horse in Invasor. His season was nothing short of dominating while Blame was not. · 98 days ago ·

Where have those 120 Beyer horses gone? I miss them. You should, too. When I broached the subject of this column to Andrew Beyer, he said it was going to be depressing reading. True enough, but also, hopefully, educational. I have questions. Perhaps, somebody has answers. Read More

The betting odds are sure to be tight when it comes to the “big three” in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes. Of course, I am speaking of Kentucky Derby winner, Animal Kingdom, runner-up, Nehro, and Preakness victor, Shackleford. Read More

  • xMystix · 12thCrown, so true! That's why I don't go out of my way to talk about Horse of the Year and Three-Year-Old Champion honors and bestow them on horses that have't raced all year to prove themselves. There is no sure lock for either. After all, we are only half way through the year. · 1041 days ago ·

It happens every single year, people see a hot new closer running on late to just barely miss, and then they go hog wild over him. For this year’s Derby, that horse’s name would be Nehro.Read More

  • blooy · psh nehor was a tough bastard, this was the extra room he needed, and the jockey really blew it, bad timing. you know he comes from out of the clouds not on turn, not sure what happend there. we saw it all the time down the strech near miss by nehro, then he makes the move on the turn, wait man, you fly on the strech. had they went on the strech, like animal kindom , could have been closer. but thats horse racing, guess a spoiler for the belmont? those closers all on timing, still congrats to him . · 1066 days ago ·

  • DeadHeat · Bells, I am not sure what to expect of Nehro. At this point he reminds me of Ice Box but with more negatives. Ice Box came into the Derby off of only one big effort in 6 weeks, while Nehro has 3 in the same amount of time. For a horse just starting to roll, I think a bounce could easily happen. If not, then you have to consider the pace. Last year's Derby had a blazing pace set by 2 huge speed balls in Conveyance and SC. There is no horse with that kind of speed this year and most will probably try to throttle down and bunch up the back a bit. Without a pace to stretch out the field and possibly cause a pace collapse, look for him to get caught very wide and have trouble making up ground on stalkers or even pacemakers who are not burnt out by a rapid pace. · 1088 days ago ·
