What the Nation is saying about Mine That Bird...

Academy Award-winning Producer Jim Wilson’s latest film, the highly acclaimed “50 to 1,” which depicts the down-home Cinderella story of 2009 Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, will make its California debut on Friday, May 23 in nearby Monrovia at Krikorian Premiere Theatre and at six other Kriko...Read More

  • https://www.facebook.com/wade.teasdale.3 · tv Obviously, the general quality of the horse and its preparedness on that day is far and away the dominant factor in winning a horse race. But as someone who uses descriptive statistics professionally, I can tell you that 15% jockey influence would account for a tremendous amount of variance across races. In fact so would 10% or even 5%. If two horses are even reasonably close to one another, a "jockey factor" of 5 - 10% decides is enormous. I suspect it's that a good jockey helps ensure a ride that allows the horse to maximize its abilities. A great jockey almost ensures it. A poor jockey puts the horse in situations where its abilities are severely, tactically compromised. · 69 days ago ·

  • matthewmartini · I'm remember thinking before the race that only two horses had won the Preakness since 1960 from the #1 post. If one is superstitious (and I'm not), one could think that Orb would be in trouble. Despite the post, I felt that if Rosario could get him outside by the second turn that he was going to win. He didn't, he looked bothered on the inside, and tired on top of it. Even if he had been able to get on the outside, I still think that he would not have run down Oxbow. The pace was too slow and Orb's big run in the Derby led to a bounce. And the post didn't help. Itsmylucky day ran better than I had anticipated. · 413 days ago ·

Other than secretariat which modern day racer do you think has had the most positive effect in horse racing for the mass media? (As in drawing people into the sport) I know IHA had started to gather a large following from those that were not as familiar with the sport - but most were let down by his scratch in the Belmont (I know it was unavoidable, but I know people who lost interest after that point)
