KENTUCKY DERBY 2012 Contenders – Gemologist, Alpha impress
It was business as usual on the Kentucky Derby 2012 trail last weekend with favorites Gemologist and Alpha running 1-2 in the G1 Wood Memorial and highly regarded colts I’ll Have Another and Creative Cause noses apart in the G1 Santa Anita Derby. Done Talking upset the G3 Illinois Derby but that rac...

Santa Anita Derby Day Pick 6 Tickets - April 7
Friday Santa Anita Park Recap – April 6 Edge to early-pressing types on the main track (2 wire jobs). Turf course played fair (turf rail at 24 feet). Hat trick for Joe Talamo and Joel Rosario booted home a pair. On the ticket front I tabbed two Primary (Dani’s Sis, After Later) winners two Secondary...

I'm really curious to see how Creative Cause runs without blinkers. He should still be the favorite in this field, but 6/5 seems a bit aggressive with the gear change.

This is a good horse...I like this chances of winning the derby more than Hansen because of this horse running style. If he stay a couple length back from the front runner and have a clear path, look out. He have great acceleration.

I did get it from someone else, but it doesn't mean it isn't true. Believe me, CC is my favorite, just not the horse I think will win. Why I've even talked and still do to Kasey Harrington, Mike's daughter about this little grey horse. With that nice Irish blood on top I can only hope he crushes. Remember Comma To The Top and Midnight Interlude, though, the SA Derby can be downright nasty as far as preps go.

Alwasy liked this one but the problem is that he never deliverd a real knock out punch yet. Has the style to win at 10 in his May year, but I would really like to see a step up this Saturday before he could be ranked up near the top of this sophomore class. Hope I witness just that Saturday.

I like Mike, have known him from his days at Yakima Meadows, it would be great for a hardtack like him to win the big one, and kudos to his main man steinman, owners that stick with trainers are few and far between, but normally are winners in the long run

Santa Anita Derby 2012 Preview – Creative Cause a slam dunk?
Southern California’s top Kentucky Derby 2012 contender Creative Cause is the strong 6-5 morning line favorite in Saturday’s Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby. Midnight Transfer
Saw him one morning last Dec. on my first visit to SA. (East coast resident) Been away from racing for many YEARS, and went looking for painting inspiration. He is IT. Started some oil paintings of him without knowing anything about him--not even his name. Did research to find that Carla trains him and just learned his name today. So excited to find out the fancy horse who inspired my flurry of SA paintings is Midnight Transfer. Hope he and Mike have an awesome trip in the SA Derby. Am so excitd, you'd think I owned him.

First time I've seen him run all out. I caught the tri and super because I liked the 4 in the mix and I really couldn't leave out the 2 comepletely, outside of that lost all my other bets because I used the 6/7 everywhere and bet the 6/7 box solid. I think I broke about even. Getting back to CC that's the best race I've seen him run and it seems to me this moves him forward enough to be a serious KD contender. These prep races are a crapshoot. Liaison was there to just get straightend out so I think he's still in the derby mix.

That was a really tough race to handicap as the only horse I completely tossed was the 9. Very deep field. I thought the 2 and 3 would burn each other out but that bodemeister for only his 3rd start is a really nice horse to hold like that.

Deep stretch- CC was hitting another gear, this horse has more bottom - mile & 1/8, mile & 1/4 looks very doable. Icy, I also had the ex & tri-didn't bet the super, but fourth for Liaison isn't moving forward-IMO

amazing that the top 3 horses that all have CD experience are U. Rags, C. Cause and Hansen with the Derby only 8 wks away. If these 3 can stay healthy and all win their next 3 races in Fla. Derby, SA Derby and Wood Memorial than a repeat of BC Juvenile with these 3 filling out the Tri is very possible. Something that has never happened before translating from BC Juvenile and Jumping 6 months to KY Derby. This time my pick would be CC on top. I did hit the tri on the BC Juvenile for $223 as well as a nice DD with St. Nicholas Abbey and Hansen in BC. Can't wait for El Padrino vs. Mark Valeski rematch in LA Derby. Gemologist will brush off the rust and try to take the Rebel which will be a strong field. He likes CD so this is a big race for him as he moves forward. Was very impressed with Bodemeister and will see how he handles 1 1/8 at SA Derby. IHA will also be up against it in SA derby by choosing to sit out these march preps. Fed Biz will need to win the Sunland derby, if he is healthy, to get much needed graded earnings. Sabercat, Castaway, Alpha, and My Adonis are on my KY derby radar. Looks like a strong crop of 3 yr. olds, hope all stay healthy for the next 8 wks. Even though it is probable there will be some of them leaving with some sort of injuries

Not a Bob Baffert fan...however Bodemeister scares the s*** out of me!!!...Will turn the tide on Creative Cause in SA Derby, then on to THE derby where no unraced two year old has won since the 19th century!!...with that said,it's a great bet that bode ain't gonna win the derby...but by belmont stakes day, with a little more experience, could run away with the race on the front end and see the winner's circle join his daddy empire maker on the looong list of belmont stakes winners!...would be the first unraced two year old since johren(WHO??) 1918 to win this race.

I just watched the head-on replay again--when Bodemeister drifted out a bit, CC may have had a Futurity flashback :0. Happy to be able to leg out, too. I don't think he needs the whip either, and anybody who even looked heavy-handed with it would never be on him anyway. The hardest part of riding CC, I think, is getting him to STOP!
