What the Nation is saying about Midnight Hawk...

The Sears Tower (as Chicagoans still call it) backdrops the post parade for the Third Chance Hcp. at Hawthorne Race Course.  Local favorite C'Mon Feet (5) wins the Third Chance Hcp.   Piloted by Tim Thornton, the four-year-old filly is undefeated in three starts for t...Read More

I said hawk and several others would or should be out and gave reason. If ring runs they should be ashamed, vince too. As far as Vince goes he too was on my list of outs and they will have an ae list this year. Harrys does not belong either and Social inclusion, while he figures to improve, was not pointing to the derby. I would hate to see him in and not prepared. Commanding, I hope gets in.

Is OUT of the Derby. He will not run in the Preakness either. Next target could be the Woody Stephens on the Belmont undercard.

There’s a lot of local hopes for a Blackhawks double on Saturday afternoon. Earlier in the day, the Chicago Blackhawks will be facing off against the St. Louis Blues in game 2 of their first round playoff series. Later in the afternoon, a horse with Blackhawks ties will take to the track as Graded S...Read More

  • https://www.facebook.com/paul.mcaleavey.1 · Ive followed this horse all spring and he reminded me of strong mandate except he ran a little better, at least before last week. He loomed and quit in slow final time to chitu. I wanted to use him but can't. Hes one of a few, including the bluegrass one tow horses I expect to skip the derby. Hawk might not handle the distance tomorrow but just be too good or merely find someone to beat him again. · 2 days ago ·
  • https://www.facebook.com/paul.mcaleavey.1 · I am just skipping the race as Im not letting him beat me and I am not gonna find some 30-1 shot to beat him either · 2 days ago ·

I was going to bet the good turfer Hitchcock when he came to Hollywood one Summer but I was tipped by a vet that he was a terrible shipper and stayed off him to my relief as he demonstrated that to be true right out there on the course acting up all the way to the gate. · 4 days ago ·
Baffert confirms Midnight Hawk to run in Illinois Derby. Ky Derby unlikely.

  • tmallios1 · Maybe he is catering to the owners. Tice has Chicago roots and so does the Blackhawks current coach. Maybe they opted for the hometown Stake. Maybe they are estute handicappers. They knew that the best they stood to run under ideal circumstances in the Derby was 3rd.. Why not pick up a Graded win and a $400,00 pay day. The most likely favorite in the race. Good luck guys, love it when they use their brains. · 6 days ago ·

  • Dressage3295 · At just a glance at the pedigree, it seemed like he was lacking in stamina, but I dug deeper through the first 5 gen and discovered the female line in packed with stamina. Horses that are winners/placers at 9.5f and past: Not for Love, Dance Number, Northern Dancer x2, Numbered Account x2, Sir Ivor, Native Dancer, Nashua, Nearctic, Buckpasser, Sir Gaylord, and Vaguely Noble. I'd hardly say he is restricted by his pedigree as it gives every indication that California Chrome can make 10f. · 10 days ago ·
  • kay.robinett · Dressage, just following his tail female line alone, he goes back to Ribot daughter (Princess Ribot) who is out of a Princequillo mare~! This female line goes back to the great broodmare Countess Wanda, a female family which has produced three Kentucky Derby winners. California Chrome has some very good mares in his pedigree. Here is a discussion about them (look for the contributions of Bill from Washington, who has a lot of expertise on female influences in a pedigree): http://www.pedigreequery.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=34751 Irregardless, when all is said and done, I have a feeling that this one will write his own pedigree, so to speak on the track. · 9 days ago ·

  • tmallios1 · Nathan, thanks for echoing my sentiments(D) . But seriously speaking. I laugh how this guy is looked down at in regards to distance and talent. All year he has been constantly run into the ground by Baffs.Maybe this was the master plan,to get him qualified and then have a fresh horse for the Big Dance. Quoting you Nathan, anyone using this guy in the exotics come Derby Day. Consider this guy the equivalent of the "KEY TO THE CITY". aN OPEN INVITATION ONTO THE irs LINE. · 23 days ago ·
