I like this guy. He won the 1950 Derby and Belmont for King Ranch.
  • buckpasser · Best story about Middleground concerns Eddie Arcaro. Banana Nose was contracted to ride him in the Derby, but Eddie didn't think much of his chances and felt Hill Prince was the better horse. Max Hirsch wasn't going to relieve him of the ride initially, but changed his mind after Eddie got into a major altercation with him at a Louisville Restaurant. Max let Eddie out of the contract and Eddie rode Hill Prince who finished behind Middleground in the Derby to Bill Boland who was a 16 yr old apprentice set the time. · 421 days ago
