What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Mastery...

Somewhere in RUSSIA !!! but unable to find any further web information.
He has been sold by Godolphin but who to ??????????
Finally, A win that legitimizes the talent that this colt possesses. Mastery, with Frankie Dettori aboard, dominated an all-star field at Sha Tin on Sunday. Winning the G1 Hong Kong Vase. Mastery has never run a bad race in his career. He's never been worse than 5th in 13 lifetime starts. That was in the 2010 Dubai World Cup. Where he was just nosed out by Gio Ponti for 4th. His only other out of money finish in his career was as a 2yr.old in 2008. When he finished 4th in the Kentucky Derby Challenge Stakes at Kemton. Mastery won the Italian Derby and St Leger in 2009. With place or show finishes in the Great Voltigeur, the Grand Prix De Paris, the Queen's Vase, and the Breeders Cup Marathon. For sometime now, Mastery has raced in the shadow of other top G1 middle distance horses owned by Godolphin. Cavalryman, Cutlass Bay, Campanologist, and Kite Wood. But on Sunday, Mastery definitely stepped out of the shadow of his stable-mates. And stepped himself a player on the world stage with a dominating performance in Hong Kong. I really hope Godolphin go the Sheema Classic route with Mastery this year in Dubai instead of the World Cup. Mastery has the ability to run synthetics as well as turf. But he's a much better horse at 12+ furlongs than he is in 9 to 10+ furlong races. I think he could be a big player in this year's Sheema Classic. And even if Godolphin chooses to send him back to the Dubai World Cup again? I wouldn't write him off in that race either. JMO.
The 2010 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races were a masterful display for horses who have spent some of their careers in Dubai.  Well-backed after opening at 10-1 and being cut into 9-2 by the local punters at Sha Tin, Mastery landed the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase (G1) by 2.5 length...Read More
The fifth home in the 2010 Dubai World Cup (G1), Mastery carries the prime hopes of Dubai in Sunday’s Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races, drawing gate two in a field of 14 over 2,400 meters in the $1.8 million Hong Kong Vase (G1).  Frankie Dettori will ride.  The workload has bee...Read More
A close fifth off a four-month layoff in the 2010 Dubai World Cup, Godolphin’s Mastery is expected to return on Friday in the Richard Hambro Darley Stakes (G3) over nine furlongs at Newmarket.  Pending a good performance, he could return for the Breeders’ Cup according to Simon Crisford’s ...Read More
  • medlocke · Mastery ran extremely well in October's G3 Darley Stakes at Newmarket. Godolphin sent out 3 horses in the race. Mastery was sent out as the 3rd string. Because of such a long lay-off. Having not raced since finishing 5th, just nosed out by Gio Ponti for 4th in the 2010 Dubai World Cup. Although sent out as Godolphin's 3rd string on the day. Mastery was officially the highest rated horse in the race. He ran best of the 3 Godolphin horses. Finishing 3rd in the G3 Darley Stakes. Then came back two weeks later on the all-weather at Kempton on November 3rd and dead-heated with Dansili Dancer in listed Floodlit Stakes. Mastery appears to be headed toward another shot at the 2011 Dubai World Cup. IMO. · 1322 days ago ·

THE first Dubai World Cup at billion-dollar Meydan ended in a dramatic finish as last year's runner-up Gloria De Campeao (Pascal Bary/TJ Pereira) just held on in the tightest of three-way photos. Representing French trainer Pascal Bary, the six-year-old - a 16-1 chance with British bookmakers - took...Read More
  • medlocke · The photo between Gloria De Campeao and Lizard's Desire is so close, even after seeing it several times, I really don't know how they didn't come to the conclusion that the 2010 Dubai World Cup was a dead heat. Allybar was also right there in between GDP and LD, just missing by a whisker himself. Gio Ponti got up for fourth, but had to go very wide to do so. Just nosing out Mastery at the line in a very close finish for 4th and 5th. Gitano Hernando got boxed in on the rail and had a terrible trip. He looked full of run, but never really got to unwind it. By the time GH did get into the clear, it was far too late. The two biggest disappointments of the race, to me, were Twice Over and Vision D'Etat. Vision D'Etat, one of the best international stakes horses in the world, clearly did not adapt to the Tapeta synthetic surface and finished far back. It was VD first lifetime start off of the turf. · 1565 days ago ·

  • Rossington · I've never seen Vision D'Etat race over any surface except turf in his racing career, so I really don't know what to expect out of him over the Tapeta surface at Meydan. I will say this, that other than a poor finish in the 09' Prix d' le Arc', he's been one of the most "clutch" racing for big money Group or Grade 1 horses in the world in 2009. With victories in the Prix Ganay, The Prince of Wales Stakes, and the Pacific Hong Kong Cup, beating a star-studded field that yielded Presvis, Collection, Ashalanda, and Eagle Mountain but to name a few. He also has one 2nd place finish to Spanish Moon in the 09' Prix Foy, and one 3rd place finish to Trincot and The Bogberry in the 09' Prix harcourt. If Vision D'Etat adapts and run's well over the Tapeta surface, Gio Ponti and Twice over, already proven stayers on synthetics, may be his only real challenges. But if he struggles on the surface, as did Prix Neil and Arc 3rd place finisher Cavalryman, than the race may become a wide open one. JMO. · 1576 days ago ·

Even though he finished 3rd in the Breeders Cup Marathon, I still feel that Mastery was really the class of that field with the most proven record. I really feel that Godophin Racing, given Mastery's talent, would have been better served to have entered him in the 1-1/2 Breeders Cup Turf. Conduit would have been difficult for Mastery to have beaten, but I do think he's every bit as talented as Dar Re Mi and Spanish Moon, the other Euro runners in the Turf. Especially given the difference of the potential payoff between the B.C. Turf vs. the B.C. Marathon. I don't understand why the Marathon is the only race in all fourteen of the Breeders Cup races that still run's for a purse less than one million dollars.
They went 1¾ miles, and yet it was only an inch or two that separated victory from defeat Friday in the $454,500 Breeders' Cup Marathon. On the wire, it was the aptly named Man of Iron beating Cloudy's Knight in an exciting opening to the 2009 Breeders' Cup series at Santa Anita.Read More

  • Rossington · Both of O'Brien's horses, Rip Van Winkle and Mastercraftsman are for real. I've watched a lot of replays of races that they've either won or gave Sea The Stars all he wanted. Personally, although O'Brien doesn't seem to think so, I feel that Mastercraftsman is a bit more talented even then Rip Van Winkle. I plan to bet Mastercraftsman whether he's in the Dirt Mile or the Classic. I do, however, feel that Rip Van Winkle will be right there with the front runner's come Classic's end. If she sticks with the Classic, it would for me be difficult not to bet Zenyatta to at least hit the board. She handles the synthetics and most particularly Santa Anita race course as well as any horse in racing does. Since it seems that most good turf horses do well on the pro-ride surface, I also wouldn't rule Gio Ponti out of this race either. Beyond that, it's difficult to say. Einstein has done well here in the past having won the S.A. Handicap earlier in the year. Richard's Kid, although a longshot, has done exceedingly well on synthetics having won the Pacific Classic and finishing third in the Goodwood. Summer Bird and Quality Road are the question mark's to me in the race. Having raced exclusively on conventional dirt, no one really knows how they will fire on synthetics. If he does, I feel Quality Road may be sitting on a big race having been bogged down on off tracks his last two races. Colonel John is also proven on synthetics, although I think this particular group of horses may be a little better competition than he used to facing. All and all, this is a tough race to handicap with a lot of "what if" factors to consider. I anxiously await. · 1715 days ago ·
