What the Nation is saying about Majestic Hussar...

off of the Derby Trail. has been sent to the farm for freshening & will be pointed toward a summer campaign.
With a few more 3-year old stakes races on the books, it is time to take another look at some newcomers that have made some noise on the Derby trail but are not necessarily mainstream picks.Read More

  • travel_vic · Early horse on an well known EARLY track........IF this one can reproduce that effort anywhere close (and against an honest, realisitic pace) then the giant might be something to consider. These three year olds sometimes get good quick as Paytner did last year. · 75 days ago ·

  • Floridaf · Sorry if I ruined your odds, gowithnybred. Travel_vic, that's what I'm trying to spot: a 3-year old with the potential to improve quickly and possibly upset the chalk. · 75 days ago ·

Majestic Hussar came out of the Fountain of Youth with an inflamed right knee. MRI discovered a chip. He has been sent to Kentucky for arthroscopic surgery. Prognosis - sidelined 2 months.
Though the Florida Derby has not been ruled out, Majestic Hussar will likely go next in a sprint stakes.
With at least seven Kentucky Derby contenders, Todd Pletcher's armarda have begun their voyage to Louisville in earnest, starting Saturday with Violence and Palace Malice.Read More

  • Sully · Could be setting yourself up to eat those words later, cause. Violence still ran a nice race, just got gunned down by the horse the race set up for, and that was Palace Malice's first try around two turns. Don't think either of his horses did him any shame. · 85 days ago ·

  • CauseForConcern · I understand your point, Sully. I just know that if I'm in the major leagues, and I'm batting 1-for-31. I'm about ready to punch that Greyhound bus ticket to the minors. · 85 days ago ·

Think the Fountain of Youth is Violence's to lose? Not so fast! There is plenty to like in some of the less chalky entrants.Read More
  • marylandgq · Glad to see you think "outside the box" as well Ashley. Seems like folks believe that TAP is going to have Violence "cranked-up" for this one, when IMHO he won't be. Why should he? The FOY is just a stepping stone to the ultimate goal (KY Derby). · 86 days ago ·

Both Derby preps on tap Saturday, The Fountain Of Youth and Risen Star Stakes are similar in that the Morning Line favorites, Violence and Normandy Invasion make their 3-year-old debut, and are expected to win. If you wager on them to WIN, you may regret that descision. Read More
  • JohnBravo · Pletcher always has them ready to fir every year in Florida. Violence should take this. He's Had Enough I expect to wake up some in this spot. · 86 days ago ·

On the gallop out Lezcano had to yank MH to slow him down. PM closed about 1/4 of a length as MH just cruised. We saw two different races.
Majestic Hussar just overpowered Palace Malice who couldn't stay with him. Very impressive win.
  • Sully · Overpowered is a strong claim. He won but Palace Malice was closing the gap to the wire, looked better on the gallop out, and was coming off a layoff. Nothing taken away from Palace Malice in this loss. · 119 days ago ·

  • Dressage3295 · Yes still impressed with Palace Malice. Fought a little with his jockey at one point and looked like he wanted to get closer to the front. Wish the jockey would have allowed that as he might have caught MH. Overall though, he ran strong for his 3rd race coming off a layoff · 119 days ago ·
