Older Comments about Lizard's Desire...

For the past couple of years, it's mostly been Imbongi, Archipenko, Mr. Brock, King's Gambit, or Jay Peg that we've heard the most praise about as far as South African horses are concerned. But Lizard's Desire has really established himself now as the "top dog" on the list of South African horses, IMO. He had an amazing run at Meydan, during the 2010 Racing Carnival in Dubai. Winning the Inhadab Handicap, the Wheels Handicap, and the 2 million dollar 2nd place share of the now legendary photo with Gloria De Campeao and Allybar for the Dubai World Cup. On April 25th, at Sha Tin in Hong Kong, Lizard's Desire added another big check to his ever growing "cash cow" status by running a super 2nd place effort, just nosed out by Viva Pataca, in the 2010 Audemars Piguet Q.E. II Cup in Hong Kong. This same race was won by Presvis in 2009, but his late closing efforts failed him this year. Lizard's Desire really ran another very strong "Dubai World Cup like" race in Hong Kong. I have a feeling that this is a colt that will be heard from again sometime in the future on the international racing scene.
I have to admit. Other than having seen King's Gambit race a few times, and Imbongi race a few times, I have never really followed the horses from South Africa that closely. But South Africa certainly had three horses that performed above and beyond at Meydan during the 2010 Dubai Racing Carnival. Imbongi, had some very good run's. Winning the Zabeel Mile, and just being inched out in an extremely close, "Dubai World Cup like" photo with Bankable. Mr. Brock as well had a great run at Meydan. Winning the Dubai International Potline Trophy Handicap, the Horizons Handicap, and finished a game third behind Red Desire and Gloria De Cameao in the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 3. But Lizard's Desire was really the star of the South African show in Dubai. Winning impressively in both the Intadab Handicap, the Wheels Handicap, and at odds of 33-1, missing by only a mere whisker of beating Gloria De Campeao in the Dubai World Cup. I think I'll start paying much more attention to the South African runner's on the international racing scene.
