What the Nation is saying about Lizard's Desire...

The last two winners of the Singapore Airlines International Cup (G1) both made positive impressions in the Dubai World Cup the same year they won the big race in Singapore, with Lizard’s Desire specifically earning his biggest win in the humid air. DubaiRaceNight.com coverage of the races from Sing...Read More

Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum’s Lizard’s Desire won the 2010 Singapore Airlines International Cup (G1) by a neck over Gloria De Campeao, avenging the reverse result in the 2010 Dubai World Cup (G1), and confirming the overwhelming strength of the Dubai International Racing Carnival...Read More
  • DubaiRaceNight · Just an awesome race on a great night of racing from a real up-and-coming racing jurisdiction, Singapore. Considering that the 2008 winner of the race was the Dubai Duty Free winner, the 2009 winner was the eventual 2010 Dubai World Cup winner, and the 2010 Dubai World Cup runner-up was the 2010 SAI Cup winner...well, you get the point. Get your horses to Dubai, then prepare for Singapore - big money to be won in both destinations and the treatment of connections and media couldn't be better...time for the world to wake up and realize life exists beyond their internal, national bubbles. · 1431 days ago ·

The story of Friday trackwork at Singapore’s Kranji Racecourse was the exciting appearance Lizard’s Desire, second home in the 2010 Dubai World Cup (G1) and Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup (G1).  Clockers from the Singapore Turf Club caught South African-bred working 600 meters in a...Read More

For the past couple of years, it's mostly been Imbongi, Archipenko, Mr. Brock, King's Gambit, or Jay Peg that we've heard the most praise about as far as South African horses are concerned. But Lizard's Desire has really established himself now as the "top dog" on the list of South African horses, IMO. He had an amazing run at Meydan, during the 2010 Racing Carnival in Dubai. Winning the Inhadab Handicap, the Wheels Handicap, and the 2 million dollar 2nd place share of the now legendary photo with Gloria De Campeao and Allybar for the Dubai World Cup. On April 25th, at Sha Tin in Hong Kong, Lizard's Desire added another big check to his ever growing "cash cow" status by running a super 2nd place effort, just nosed out by Viva Pataca, in the 2010 Audemars Piguet Q.E. II Cup in Hong Kong. This same race was won by Presvis in 2009, but his late closing efforts failed him this year. Lizard's Desire really ran another very strong "Dubai World Cup like" race in Hong Kong. I have a feeling that this is a colt that will be heard from again sometime in the future on the international racing scene.
The old stalwart of Hong Kong racing, Viva Pataca, second in the 2008 Dubai Sheema Classic (G1) found more of his best on Sunday when winning the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup (G1) under Weichong Marwing, defeating 2010 Dubai World Cup (G1) runner-up Lizard’s Desire... Read More
There were no overwhelming reactions to Thursday’s draw for either the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup (G1) or the Champions Mile (G1).  Dubai racing graduates Presvis and Lizard’s Desire drew stalls six and two, respectively for the QE II Cup while Imbongi goes six and Good Ba Ba breaks...Read More
I have to admit. Other than having seen King's Gambit race a few times, and Imbongi race a few times, I have never really followed the horses from South Africa that closely. But South Africa certainly had three horses that performed above and beyond at Meydan during the 2010 Dubai Racing Carnival. Imbongi, had some very good run's. Winning the Zabeel Mile, and just being inched out in an extremely close, "Dubai World Cup like" photo with Bankable. Mr. Brock as well had a great run at Meydan. Winning the Dubai International Potline Trophy Handicap, the Horizons Handicap, and finished a game third behind Red Desire and Gloria De Cameao in the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 3. But Lizard's Desire was really the star of the South African show in Dubai. Winning impressively in both the Intadab Handicap, the Wheels Handicap, and at odds of 33-1, missing by only a mere whisker of beating Gloria De Campeao in the Dubai World Cup. I think I'll start paying much more attention to the South African runner's on the international racing scene.
The second home in the 2010 Dubai World Cup (G1), Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup (G1) contender Lizard’s Desire parted company with jockey Jeff Lloyd in trackwork Tuesday, causing a stir at Sha Tin and a swollen ankle for his current rider.   Lloyd was preparing the South Afri...Read More

There is always plenty to talk about after the Dubai World Cup. In perusing the past performances for the 100 horses that were to run on this year's Dubai World Cup card, it struck me that most of these critters had earned enough. THE first Dubai World Cup at billion-dollar Meydan ended in a dramatic finish as last year's runner-up Gloria De Campeao (Pascal Bary/TJ Pereira) just held on in the tightest of three-way photos. • medlocke · The photo between Gloria De Campeao and Lizard's Desire is so close, even after seeing it several times, I really don't know how they didn't come to the conclusion that the 2010 Dubai World Cup was a dead heat. Allybar was also right there in between GDP and LD, just missing by a whisker himself. Gio Ponti got up for fourth, but had to go very wide to do so. Just nosing out Mastery at the line in a very close finish for 4th and 5th. Gitano Hernando got boxed in on the rail and had a terrible trip. He looked full of run, but never really got to unwind it. By the time GH did get into the clear, it was far too late. The two biggest disappointments of the race, to me, were Twice Over and Vision D'Etat. Vision D'Etat, one of the best international stakes horses in the world, clearly did not adapt to the Tapeta synthetic surface and finished far back. It was VD first lifetime start off of the turf. · 1481 days ago ·

There was plenty of praise and exaultation for the champion, Gloria De Campeao, the Brazilian-bred son of Argentine-sire Impression, a winner by the slimmest of discernable margins in the $10 million Dubai World Cup (G1).  The winner of the Maktoum Challenge - R1 (G3), and a tough second parall...Read More
