ruffian75 · That was a beautiful story. I never knew that he was that awesome. When icyhotboo mentioned of his Triple Crown appeal, I remember another horse that they "touted" as the 2nd coming of Secretariat in 1984. Woody Stephens had Devil's Bag, who had been named the Eclipse winner for his 2 year old campaign. When he came into his 3 year old season, he was in a stakes race down @ Gulfstream, he was so feared in a 8 horse field, that Gulfstream refused to accept Show bets on the race. He ran a disappointing 4th, and Gulfstream lost a chance to make a whole lot of money had they accepted Show bets. Neat thing about this story, was that Woody Stephens would go on and win the Derby and Belmont with Swale. Sadly, though, 8 days after the Belmont, Swale was working out at Belmont, and succumbed to a heart attack. · 354 days ago ·

BrianZipse · I was there for three of the five. It was the most remarkable feat in racing ... can you imagine training five consecutive Belmont Stakes winners?!? By the way, you forgot the last of the five, Danzig's Connection. Stephan's Oddysey was Woody's, but he ran 2nd to Creme Fraiche. The stands must have chanted "Woody, Woody, Woody!" for five minutes after the Danzig Connection win. Now that was unbelievable! · 354 days ago ·
