Older Comments about Leading Light...

Even hanging to his left in the stretch, Leading Light still manages to hold off last year's Gold Cup winner Estimate and the Irish mare Missunited who ran a storming race also!! Leading Light is absolutely a brilliant stayer!!

  • travel_vic · Our stewards carry counters. WHne KNOWN abusers are in a race, they set to work counting the times they hit the animal. Last Fall one of the Euro turfers was called to the roof for a warning. It is not tolerated · 1043 days ago
  • jonquil · @Northport: Good. I had hoped there'd be a penalty for that when I saw him doing that and I'm glad they did it. Leading Light looked exhausted and was really huffing and puffing in the winners' circle. I kind of wish there'd be a different type of penalty instead that would make both jockeys and owners really think twice about breaking the rules on excessive whipping, but that's just me. · 1043 days ago
Leading Light beats quality older stayers Royal Diamond in 2nd and Pale Mimosa in 3rd to win the G3 Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan in Ireland on his 2014 seasonal debut.
  • ILuvTurfRacing · Royal Diamond, himself a former G1 Irish St Leger & G3 British Champion Long Distance Cup winner, tried to take the field gate to wire, but Joseph O'Brien got an immediate response from Leading Light when asked and quickly went clear of Royal Diamond to win easily being eased down. · 1075 days ago
  • ILuvTurfRacing · The replay of the G3 Vintage Crop Stakes is now available for viewing on YouTube for those who've yet to see it. · 1075 days ago
The 2013 English St Leger & Queen's Vase winner makes his 2014 seasonal debut on Sunday at Navan Racecourse in Ireland in the G3 Vintage Crop Stakes for 4+YO Males & Females over 14f. Other notables in the field include Royal Diamond, Pale Mimosa, & Saddler's Rock.
Jockey Gerald Mosse says he's delighted to have picked up the mount on Leading Light for Sunday's G1 Prix De l'Arc De Triomphe. Great decision by Aidan O'Brien and the coolmore ownership. Mosse knows those tracks in France like the back of his hand and IMO he's still one of not only the best jockey's in France but in the whole of Europe. Really like this pairing!!

Aidain O'Brien told AtTheRaces.com on Sunday that G1 English St. Leger winner, Leading Light, may be supplemented into the field for the G1 Prix De l'Arc de Triomphe. O'Brien said Coolmore currently have 4 horses "in the mix" for the Arc, Ruler of the World, Leading Light, Kingsbarns, & Camelot, but said Camelot will only run if the ground is good or better. He also said though Kingsbarns is still in the Arc picture at present, he's more likely to be pointed toward the G1 Champion Stakes at Ascot. O'Brien said Leading Light will work next week before any final decision on whether he'll run in the Arc will be made. O'Brien said "Leading Light is lazy, but is not short of class." I would love to see this horse in the Arc picture.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @Northport, really big fan of Leading Light, also. I'm not sure I could say he'd be my pick to win the Arc hands down, but it would be hard for me not to use him in my exotics. · 1313 days ago
  • paul.nathan.946 · This horse is not winning an arc lol melbourne cup maybe. you can just see him plodding along upfront trying to take it then he will just get swallowed up by horses with a turn of foot like treve and orfevre you can't imagine him coming from the back lol, would really be a disappointing if this wins such a great arc · 1312 days ago
los hijos de galileo siguen sin responder como se esperaba..un día lo dije y hoy lo corroboro... el mejor cruce..hijos de alydar... sadler's wells mucho mejor que el. el st. leger..fácil para el hijo de montjeu"leading light"
Leading Light turns back Epsom Oaks winner Talent to win the G1 English St. Leger at Doncaster. May be the best out and out stayer in Europe right now, 3yo or otherwise, IMO.
  • ILuvTurfRacing · What I really love about Leading Light is the way he just keeps finding more off the bridal once he's challenged. He did it in the Queen's Vase on that stiff, uphill finish at Ascot when Feel Like Dancing came at him hard, and he did again today in the St. Leger when Galileo Rock, Secret Number, & Libertarian all 3 came off the bridal about the same time and came after him. My my watering at the prospect of seeing Leading Light knock heads with the Queen's filly Estimate next month in the British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot!! · 1321 days ago
  • Northport · O'Brien mentioned dropping him in distance for a possible tilt at the arc... wherever he goes I will be watching for sure, he is filling the St. Nicholas Abbey void for me :P · 1321 days ago
I think Aiden O'Brien has a really good colt here. This Montijeu colt looked very impressive and gutsy holding off Feel LIke Dancing. He really settles nicely off the pace and it looks like he enjoys those long(er) distances. The 1 13/16 St. Leger should be right up his alley and contend Ruler of the World.

  • Euro Trash · Yes, I agree On the Gallop. Two horses had very unlucky trips in the Derby. · 1406 days ago
  • ILuvTurfRacing · @rafirox, I always thought Ruler of the World looked like a St. Leger horse too, but right as of right now Leading Light would definitely be my St. Leger pick of they were headed to Doncaster tomorrow. · 1406 days ago
Looks like Aidan O'Brien has himself a very promising English St. Leger contender in Leading Light Much the best in the Queen's Vase and being a son of Montjeu he'll probably improve for the step up in trip from 12f today to 14-1/2f at Doncaster.
