What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Lauburu...

Today's Derby contender works included a five furlong bullet from To Honor And Serve. The Bill Mott trainee has now worked twice since a disappointing show finish in the Fountain of Youth. He goes next in the April 3 Florida Derby. Read More

  • mdracing69 · The workout report has been updated to include the Oaklawn horses. Elite Alex worked a bullet and Borel was impressed. He told Oaklawn officials that Elite Alex reminds him of Street Sense. He will definitely get pace help if The Factor goes in the Rebel. · 1221 days ago ·
  • ajump08 · Elite Alex is going to keep improving for Tim Ritchey, who trained his sire Afleet Alex, who ran 6th in the Rebel before winning the Arkansas Derby and eventually moving on to take the last two legs of the Triple Crown. Interesting note: He's an Ontario bred, so the Queen's Plate is probably on the back of the connections' heads. Also, people need to realize the majority of the 3 year olds you see aren't geared up all the way, the trainers wan't to slowly progress through the Winter for peak performance in May when it really matters. Examples of horses running huge in their last prep race and then dissapointing on the First Saturday of May are abundant: Sidney's Candy, Bellamy Road, and even Afleet Alex (although his third wasn't bad). · 1221 days ago ·
Kentucky Derby contender  workouts for today (Wednesday, Feb. 16)  (with HRN Derby rankings):   Today's Derby contender works featured a four furlong drill from Delta Jackpot hero Gourmet Dinner. He was last seen finishing 3rd in the Holy Bull Stakes and has more than enough graded e...Read More
  • bband · Very nice work by Gourmet Dinner. I think people are overlooking him way too much. Last race was deceptively good. · 1239 days ago ·

It is now 2011 and that means we have officially embarked on the Kentucky Derby trail. Here in the East it’s been difficult to see even the slightest hint of rose blossoms buried beneath 20-30 inches of snow drifts. But, heck, they’ve already run the first Derby prep (the Count Fleet Stakes at Aqued...Read More

Grade 3 winner Soldat, runner-up in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G2) in November at Churchill Downs, opened his sophomore campaign with an impressive victory in a 1 1/8-mile allowance race on Friday at Gulfstream Park. The dark bay or brown War Front colt set all the pace under jockey Alan Garcia...Read More
To fully appreciate the title to this article please throw on Aerosmith’s Dude Looks Like a Lady, and turn the dial all the way up to eleven. And ratcheting up the dial is exactly what eight newly turned sophomores will be shooting for, as they face off in a Gulfstream Park allowance in tomorrow’s n...Read More

  • ajump08 · Soldat pulls away from Cool Blue Red Hot late for an impressive and gutsy win over a sloppy track he oviously loved in a time of 1:49.22, over two and a half seconds faster than a maiden race race two races prior. Not convinced he's a contender off of slop, but if Churchill comes up rainy he could be a factor now proven he definitely gets at least 9 furlongs, and due to his runner-up in the BC Juvenile Turf, the Graded Stakes earnings is a non-factor. Dissapointing we couldn't see Dialed In, maybe we'll see him comeback in the Holy Bull. · 1266 days ago ·

Friday's 9th race at Gulfstream Park is a solid allowance race, but the 1 1/8 mile test might as well be a Derby trail prep race - featuring Soldat, Dialed In, Lauburu and several others. Read More
  • arazi · This race could definitely produce some Derby horses. Dialed In, Cool Blue Red Hot, Beamer and Lauburu all have plenty of upside. · 1267 days ago ·
Some of the early stakes for 3-year-olds, which have had trouble luring more than five horses in some cases, have been a bit underwhelming so far. The grade III Lecomte on Saturday at Fair Grounds is one example. Though the Lecomte is the marquee 3-year-old race this weekend, the best field of sopho...Read More
SOLDAT (War Front), who broke his maiden in the grassy With Anticipation S. (G3) last summer, highlights a very intriguing allowance on the main track at Gulfstream Park Friday. • 12 Clip · When it comes to Derby hopefuls it wise to enter with caution. Some of these horses who are listed as three-year-olds, are 2 year olds with 4 months to go til they're really three. Alot can happen in those 2-4 months of development. There's no question Uncle Mo is a standout. I think horses like Jaycito, J.P's Gusto, and Rogue Romance should warrant spots in the Top 10 over horses like Tiz Blessed, Bretheren, Lauburu, and Manicero. There are alot of good 3-year-old's out west this year. Here are few names to watch out for that's names aren't The Factor or Uncle Sam. Ok, here we go. Sway Away, Premier Pegasus, Clubhouse Ride. · 1284 days ago ·
Each year at this time I like to take note of promising juveniles who are recent maiden or allowance winners, but not yet in the league of division leaders, in this case Uncle Mo and To Honor and Serve.Uncle Mo is the likely champion off his wins in the Champagne and Breeders' Cup Juvenile, while To...Read More
$925K KEESEPT Yearling. Half brother to five stakes horses, including two-time Champion Ashado, and her full brother Grade 1 turf stakes winner Sunriver.
Lauburu, a half-brother to dual champion Ashado, held on by a nose to graduate first out at Aqueduct on Saturday.   Purchased for $925,000 as a Keeneland September yearling, Lauburu stumbled slightly at the start, prompted the pace in second while racing outside of the early leader, took the le...Read More
