Older Comments about Lady's Secret...

I watched this beautiful animal in a race @ Golden Gate Field. I believe it was early 1990's but, I'm not quite sure. I was with a group of friends, who thought because I had a horse,& rode (western, I might add), I could pick a winner. I've been a lover of Secretariat throughout his life, so when I saw a filly out of him running, I had to make a bet on her to place. While I was waiting in line @ the betting window, one of my friends said she needed a second horse for a couple she knew for an "exacta" they were betting. Of course I told her about the filley so, off she went. I kept thinking I should place a bet of more significance after all, her father's portrait was hanging right next to me !! It was a revelation !! I didn't change my bet & she won !! The other couple sent $20 to me as a thank you. Their exacta box came in because I gave them the winner ! If memory serves me, Lady's Secret went off @ 20-1 !

  • travel_vic · Poor little gray mare. Bolted from all that overwork just so old bucktooth could get his name in the papers again. · 669 days ago
It looks to me that many times in her career she was a bit out of shape and would finish 3,4,5 and then respond to racing a ton in a short time and put together a long win streak.. The pattern is no differnet in her last few races..
  • travel_vic · What? She raced over her head OFTEN and, comparativly was just not that good at times...Until her 4 year old season, then she strung them together...A disaster at 5. · 1137 days ago
A bit of history: John and Kim Glenney moved Lady’s Secret, and her companion Superbe Dawn, from Kentucky to California in May of 2001, believing the milder winters would benefit her. Lady’s Secret died on the farm March 4, 2003 after foaling a healthy General Meeting colt. She was 21. Superbe Dawn raised the Lady’s Secret colt as her own. As a tribute to the great race mare, The Lady’s Secret Memorial Garden was developed at SK Racing Stable.

Happy New Year! 2013 marks the 10th Anniversary of the passing of "the iron lady" Lady's Secret. There are plans in the works for a big birthday party / tea in The Lady's Secret Memorial Garden. Date to be announced. Please plan on joining us. Lady's Secret (April 8, 1982 - March 4, 2003
Wow, this mare truly was amazing. Dominant against the girls and tough against the boys. And raced 45 times!!! You never see horses raced that much anymore.

  • travel_vic · CLASSIC example of an honest animal pushed to the point that racing no longer was a priority. I can recall her bolting on the clubhouse turn, piriful, all because of Mr. Ego pushing her on and on when EVERYON ELSE saw that she was screaming for a rest. Heatless egoist ass of a trainer, old D. Wayne...Used to follow all his drug positives at Los Alamitos before he began poisoining the t-bred with than gonadotropin GARBAGE. · 1246 days ago
Yesterday she was at 8.72, now she's at 8.70, so it's obvious a Rachel Alexandra fan is ranking this great mare down just for the heck of it. This mare should be well over 9.0. Quit ranking her down!!!

  • Dressage3295 · A Z fan could just not like her. There's no logic inside blaming the fan of one horse. Why not blame uneducated racing fans in general? · 1348 days ago
  • timgsmith10 · This thread is ridiculous I may go rank her a 6 just to prove how silly the rankings are.. ooh no shes a 8.68 now .... · 1348 days ago
Genetics question. If the x-factor is only passed through female heirs, is there a correlation of the number of daughters that exhibit the traits of the x-factor, or does it lay dormant until they become broodmares?

Secretariat’s most successful offspring - 1986 Horse of the Year and Champion Older Filly. The Iron Lady and Cigar have won the most G1’s in one season - eight , since races became graded in 1973. A great front runner in a petite 900 pound package.
  • travel_vic · ruined by an overzealous egocentric tainer. The image of that poor animal bolting on the first turn after all that she had done for her connections diminished her memory so much that old D Wayne proved his ego trumped an animal's welfare · 1523 days ago
  • Cardly Knot · Travel_vic, I see you Lukas bash on here o'plenty. What is/was it, beside egomania, that led many others to say the same(under their breath, while he still gets praise? Too hard of a training program learned by Pletcher, too? Or is that too politcal on this site to elaborate? · 1522 days ago
Would love to see her entire race record put up on here.
such a pretty horse
Great to see another filly gaining in the rankings! I feel like this new Female of all time record thing is really helping the fillies/mares to get a bit more recognition.
  • Thoroughbred44 · Yes, great to see them gaining, but not so sure about this female of all time thing. · 1784 days ago
  • icyhotboo · That's a real tough question. There sure were a lot of them you could rank so close together. · 1784 days ago
In 1986, Lady's Secret ran 15 times, 13 times in Grade 1 events, once in a Grade 2, and once in a Grade 3. From those efforts, she had 10 wins,2 seconds, and 3 thirds. Would be hard to find another filly that accomplished 8 Grade 1 wins in one year.
