Anyone on HRN a memoribilia expert or collector? I have a question about framing/value that I I havent been able to get answered around these parts.

  • Lisa111 · illhaveanother, Buckpasser is correct with all that he told you. I will add that if the piece of artwork is paper form, you must use archival mats, backboards and also if no mats (price consideration) us must have a spacer in between the glass the artwork to prevent the glass from laying directly on theart. If it is cloth or fabric then the piece needs to be sewn down, not glued or taped. It should be sewn with "fishing line" and not just thread. Additionally, Buckpasser is correct as well with having a pocket put on the back to keep any certificate of authenticity, however, it is also a good idea to have a copy made and placed in a safe place. The reason for this is insurance purposes and proof of the item and when it was purchased. If the piece is stolen, the certificate goes with the piece. In case of destruction, fire, etc, the certificate would also go up in flames with it. As far as authentication and appraisals, "paper or photos" can be appraised at local museums or at the very least. they can point you to a specialist that deals in that. If it is in item, the best appraisal would be where you bought it, if not possible, try the museum route. In some cases there is a fee attached to this. · 544 days ago
  • Buckpasser · There are firms that specialize in horse racing memorabilia and valuation. Look up the Seabiscuit memorabilia auction, that firm sold many items from pictures, saddlecloths, George Woolf's whip, boots and a saddle that was given to him by Phar Lap's jockey that he used on Phar Lap. I believe that saddle went for several hundred thousand. · 544 days ago

I know I come to HRN for a load of advice and info, but I am still a relatively green fan compared to most of you. I know virtually nothing about the sport pre-Smarty Jones TC try, meaning that I know the stats but I dont really have a feel for the nuances. If one was looking for a book about the history of the game and personalities from the glory days like Bing Crosby at Del Mar for example, that is entertaining and an easy read for an overworked sleep deprived father of 2 under 2, and spends most his evenings reading research papers . Any recommendations? Once again I am very thankful for the entire HRN

  • illhaveanothertriplecrown · Thank you! I knew you wouldnt let me down. Can't wait to read one of these. I would like to have a feel for how the game was. I was pretty into the game from Smarty Jones through Eight Belles, then fell out of love with the sport, only to be brought back in by I'll Have Another and his run. Does anyone know or know a site that shows how many combinations of exactas, exacta boxes, trifectas or trifecta boxes there are in a 20 horse race?

Just wondering if anyone on here has ever or is part of a partner ship in this racing industry. I am thinking about buying "shares" of a horse or horses and I was wondering if anyone had any insight or advice.

  • illhaveanothertriplecrown · The two that I am looking at are Charles River Racing and Genesis. I'd be starting small, at first not looking to make a cash winfall but rather get my toes wet in racing. Would you recommend doing syndicate style versus outright purchase? I figure for short money it will be worth the experience. · 795 days ago

  • illhaveanothertriplecrown · A rough go. Perhaps it may take more to see him return to last summers form. His loss does not mean I will not follow him and root for him for the rest of his career. Probably just means his Delta Downs Jackpot saddle cloth hanging in my man cave will not become a priceless piece of memoribilia. Oh well, I am still a Know More fan. · 860 days ago
Trainer Doug O’Neill said he will scratch 2012 Best Pal Stakes winner Know More from the first division of the opening-day Oceanside Stakes in favor of an allowance race on the Friday program.
he keeps getting second, which is better than what he was getting. i have a feeling he'll get better with time.
