I was watching a program on HRTV last night where Laffit Pincay, Jr. and Christina Blacker were going over the different candidates for this year's upcoming Eclipse Awards. Kenneth & Sarah Ramsey are up for Eclipse Awards for top owner and breeder in 2013, and Pincay said that because of how successful Kitten's Joy has been that his stud fee will double from 50 to 100 thousand dollars beginning in 2014.

  • Floridaf · It would be hard to argue that kind of raise. As a sire, he's had a stellar year. · 882 days ago
  • Mike in SB · It seems like most of his best horses are Ramsey homebreds, they are providing the right kind of mares. I think they deserve both Eclipse Awards, Breeder and Owner. · 882 days ago
Ken Ramsey has a really nice interview about Kitten's joy: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/videos/13057/ramsey-farm-2013-ken-ramsey-and-kittens-joy
It looks like the Ramseys are breeding the mares they bred to him back to him, a risky move in the breeding business where it is rare that siblings amount to much. Mr. Ramsey surely knows what he is doing, but it takes real "chutzpah" to go against general breeding law

  • ILuvTurfRacing · Kitten's Joy has really become a fantastic sire of horses racing on turf. He's kind of become America's Galileo, if you will, among turf sires, although I would frankly rate Galileo a better and much more successful sire of graded or group level turf horses. No disrespect meant to Kitten's Joy by the comment in the least. · 925 days ago
  • Sullivan · The test will be if Kitten's Joy gets international attention. · 924 days ago
Kitten's Joy will stand for $100,000 in 2014.

  • triple_double · I didn't hear the exact comments either. I am just quoting EP Taylor's comments above. LOL · 931 days ago
  • buckpasser · What I heard from the announcer pertained only to Castellano riding Bobby's Kitten again. Javier rode a kitten later in the BC so i don't think it applied to all kittens just Bobby. So I agree with a Goblin on this. · 931 days ago
With the emergence of Kitten's Joy as a turf sire, could he be regarded as America's answer to his grandsire, Sadler's Wells(England's turf sire champ) in the breeding shed? Seems like there's a kitten winning everywhere.

  • goblin · Kitten's Joy will stand for an increased fee in 2014--$100,000. (Not surprising) http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/81836/kittens-joy-to-stand-for-100000-in-2014 · 934 days ago
Had a first-time winner in the 6:50 @ Kempton today in Marzocco! Marzocco got away poorly, giving the more experienced colts a 2 length lead, but by the end he won by 1 3/4 lengths to Roskilly.
How many Kitten's Joy babies are running in the breeders cup?. Is it double digits yet?....lol
  • EP Taylor · And his fee is ONLY $50,000. I am sure that will jump up drastically in the coming months. · 952 days ago
  • amfuller · I'm counting 6 so far. · 952 days ago
Absolutely unbelievable day for my favorite sire. Can he be voted horse of the year ;)
  • LAZMANNICK · I absolutley loved thsi guy when he was racing and don't think we saw the best of him. He's passing his aggressive attitude on for sure. · 1012 days ago
  • Cedar · Is there anyone this year who can possible beat out the Ramsey's for the breeder's eclipse? Already having a solid and successful year but today could be historic if one of the kittens can get the del mar oaks. · 1012 days ago
What a day he is having as a sire!
He has been quite the productive stallion for the Ramsey's. I'm trying to think of any other operation (like the Ramsey's) that has been this successful with home breds from the same stallion in recent history. Although it is pretty easy to keep track of his crops with Kittens all over the east coast.
  • Sullivan · I can't think of one. Calumet was way too far back. · 1054 days ago
  • Northport · While I get tired of seeing so many 'kittens' I have to admit that the ramsays did a great job of supporting their own stallion early in his stud career. While the mares they bought for him weren't always world beaters on the track or pedigree wise, they were good matches for KJ, and clearly it has paid off tenfold · 1054 days ago
