What the Nation is saying about Kinsale King...

After a fabulous 3rd place effort at Ascot in the Golden Jubilee Stakes. American sprinter, Kinsale King, had no such luck in the July Cup at Newmarket. Kinsale King's connections had instructed jockey Kieren Fallon to try and stay closer to the pace in the July Cup. Equiano and Alverta came out of the gate with a blistering pace. With Starspangledbanner right there as well. Kinsale King broke well, and stayed with the pace makers for a time. But faded badly in the last 2 furlongs of the race. On a side note. Starspangledbanner's jockey, Johnny Murtagh, was given a 6 day suspension for a maneuver he used in the race. Bringing Starspangledbanner across the field out of post position 11 all the way over to the inside rail. The six day suspension will now keep Johnny Murtagh from being able to ride in July 24th's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Murtagh was likely to be the jockey for Dante Stakes and Irish Derby winning colt, Cape Blanco in the race.
  • Mike99 · Hi from Australia. I watched last night and thought Kinsale King would be the main danger along with the other Aussie Alverta, which I knew would improve. But he faded at the end, which was a bit out of character for him the way he has been going. You know they should consider bringing him down to Australia. There are a couple of nice races down the straight 6 furlong course at Flemington. Kinsale King would be suited by our tracks which are fast and flat, unlike the UK courses which can be quite testing and can explain why some horses don't back up all that well over there after a tough run. Love to see Kinsale come to Oz, I think it would be great for world racing. And my long range tip - watch for Starspangledbanner to step up to a mile real soon - I would love to see that!! · 57 days ago
  • medlocke · Mike99, I don't think there's any question about the fact that Kinsale King is the best 6 furlong sprinter from America. I also agree with you that it was a bit out of character for Kinsale King to fade the way he did in the July Cup. His connections had told Kieren Fallon to keep Kinsale King closer to the pace in the July Cup. The early blistering pace that Equiano, Alverta, and Starspangledbanner went off at was what sunk Kinsale King. The only problem I would have with Kinsale King going "down under" to race against Australia's best is that all of those races are on turf as well. Kinsale King, without question, does his best sprinting over synthetic track surfaces. As he looked winning the Vernon O. Underwood Stakes at Hollywood Park and the Golden Shaheen at Meydan during the carnival in Dubai. · 57 days ago

  • medlocke · I followed the whole Royal-Ascot meet very closely with great enthusiasm this year. Let me offer congratulations to Kinsale King. America's best 6 furlong sprinter, without question. Kinsale King made his first career start on turf at Ascot in the Golden Jubilee Stakes. He ran a blazing race, right at the front, for the entire 6 furlongs and was right there at race's end with a legit shot to win. Amazing for a first start on turf. Especially at Ascot. A track that can be very difficult to win over. Kinsale King was beaten only by Ballydoyle's new superstar, Starspangledbanner and Society Rock. Ultimately finishing 3rd of 24 starters. The Golden Jubilee Stakes winner, Starspangledbanner, had recently clocked a 9 second furlong in training. Ballydoyle's top trainer, Aiden O'Brien remarked that Starspangledbanner was the first horse he's ever trained to accomplish such a feat. Kinsale King put forth an awesome effort. Finishing ahead of noted sprinters like the Irish filly, Fleeting Spirit. Also, War Artist, Prime Defender, Total Gallery, Main Aim, and Showcasing. He's now going to stay in the UK and target the Darley July Cup as his next goal. Starspangledbanner is a colt that's going to be awfully difficult to beat. But Kinsale King's sprinting ability more than gives him an adequate shot. The only sprinter to date, anywhere else in the world that I've seen any faster than Starspangledbanner is Hong Kong's Sacred Kingdom. Who I believe is the world's best over 6 furlongs, bar none. To call Saturday’s Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot one of the world’s most contentious sprint races in recent memory would seem an understatement.  This race brings a bit of everything – and form from Meydan is all over the card.  KINSALE KING, winner of the 2010 Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1) ma...Read More

  • medlocke · Dutrow's horse, Radiohead, raced in the UK in 2009 with some success. He won the 09' Norfolk stakes at Ascot. Then finished 3rd at York in the 09 Nunthorpe Stakes against older horses. The race, in fact, was won by 8yr.old Boderlesscott. Then, he raced at Newmarket and ran a tremendous race in the 09' Middle Park Stakes. Just narrowly missing running down the still undefeated, and one of the UK's top 3yr.old prospects, Awzaan. Awzaan is very good colt. Radiohead really pushed him as hard as he's been pushed yet in any of his 4 lifetime starts. · 134 days ago
  • rossington · I know that I've read a lot of comment's on different racing web-sites that racing fan's in both Ireland and the UK are begging for Jerry Moss to send Zenyatta over to Ascot to race. I hate to disappoint the European racing fan's, but at this point I'll just be happy if we can get her to come east of Arkansas. I did, however, just yesterday read a story that said that Zenyatta, after she's retired from racing, may be sent over to be bread to Sea The Stars. The story claimed that John Shirreffs said Sea The Stars is his pick for a sire to bread Zenyatta to. The great UK mare Zarkava is in foal to Sea The Stars right now. · 134 days ago
