What the Nation is saying about Kinsale King...

It's no secret that turf runners have been more successful on the Tepeta surface at Meydan racecourse in Dubai, but how long until trainers recognize the importance of training on the surface rather than expecting their horses to quickly adapt.Read More

  • Mike in SB · While he did have an injury plagued career, I think Animal Kingdom's 11 race career is also a reflection of the modern trend in racing which is to run the horse as few times as possible. After the Breeders Cup he could have run in a race like the Cigar Mile, instead they waited until Gulfstream and ran on the Turf as a prep for Dubai. It is hard to compare a horse with only two Grade/Group One wins with the great horses of the past, although personally I think he had as much talent as many of the great horses. I just wish he had had the chance to race more times. · 50 days ago ·

A little shout out to American Sprinter Kinsale King, and honoring his Golden Shaheen win in 2010 over the Top sprinter in the World at that time, Rocketman.
he's retired?
Every race track has a horse that fans adopt as their own. For many years, that horse at Golden Gate Fields has been Bold Chieftain. While still an icon every time he takes to the track, a new local favorite took to the track on Sunday. His name is easier to pronounce than it is to read. He is Shuda...Read More

Kinsale King, who made a comeback off a five-month layoff in the Bing Crosby Handicap on July 31, will take a step back in distance and change surfaces when he faces eight rivals in Wednesday’s $85,000-added Green Flash Handicap. Two years ago at Del Mar, an underachieving 3-year-old named Kinsale King was transferred to then 33-year-old trainer Carl O’Callaghan. • Rossington · Although he ran a great race at Royal-Ascot in last year's G1 Golden Jubilee Stakes on turf. Kingsale King's always been at his best on a synthetic surface, more than any other. As he displayed by beating one of the top sprinters in the world in Rocket Man in Dubai in the 2010 Golden Shaheen. If he's anywhere close to his best in the Bing Crosby? I believe Kingsale King will take a world of beating in this race. · 662 days ago ·

SINGAPORE sprint star Rocket Man (Patrick Shaw/Felix Coetzee) finally achieved a coveted international Group 1 triumph when he stormed to victory in the Golden Shaheen.Although the powerful five-year-old had to dig deep to catch front-running Euroears, he won decisively in the end by two and a quart...Read More
Kinsale King, winner of the 2010 Dubai Golden Shaheen (G1), will be scratched by trainer Carl O’Callaghan in his repeated bid.  “His legs are all blown up, he seems to have had an allergic reaction to something, maybe a [insect] bite” the Irish-born trainer reported to DubaiRaceNight.com. ...Read More
Bad news for anyone that was going to back Kinsale King in his bid to repeat as Golden Shaheen Stakes champion in 2011. I clicked onto Dubairacenight.com's web-site at about 8:00 A.M., and trainer Carl O'Callaghan has scratched Kinsale King out of this year's Golden Shaheen. Saying, and I quote, "his legs are all blown up. he look's like he's had an allergic reaction to something"? End quote.
We are now 24 hours from the first race of the 2011 Dubai World Cup and there is absolute electricity running through the connections, media, and anyone else connected with the event.  Meydan looks better than ever and a record crowd to witness racing in the Emirates is expected  as the fu...Read More
I'd have to say I like Kinsale King's chances of repeating in the Golden Shaheen quite a bit more now than I did before p.p. draw. Rocket Man has been brilliant everywhere he's raced this year. This is a horse who's sprinted all over the world and never finished worse than 2nd against the world's best. But Rocket Man could possibly have a difficult time overcoming a wide draw? But I will say this much. If Rocket Man get's out on the lead, difficult for Kinsale King or anyone else in the race to catch him this time, IMO.
Irish-born trainer Carl O’Callaghan thinks his gelding, Kinsale King, is just a bit better this year than before his win in the 2010 edition of the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen.Read More

  • medlocke · Tough draw for Godolphin's Skysurfers in the Godolphin Mile. He looked incredible when he beat Musir in the Firebreak Stakes and set a Meydan track record for a mile on tapeta in that race. I put him up as the most likely winner of this year's Godolphin Mile that day. But with this extremely wide P.P draw, it could certainly make thing's very difficult for Skysurfers. I'd have to say given his previous start at Meydan, and the good P.P. draw he has, keep a close eye on Conveyance in this race. JMO. · 794 days ago ·

  • 12 Clip · Sleeper, I think Rogue Romance has a very bright future. The son of Smarty Jones has an explosive kick much like his father. This horse has a lot of speed and if he goes in the Juvenile, I'm sure he'll be forwardly placed, and much closer to the pace, than he was in the Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland. I applaud McPeek's strategy to try the dirt. The horse is bred for it, and by the way he hits the ground, he should get faster over the dirt. · 951 days ago ·

After a fabulous 3rd place effort at Ascot in the Golden Jubilee Stakes. American sprinter, Kinsale King, had no such luck in the July Cup at Newmarket. Kinsale King's connections had instructed jockey Kieren Fallon to try and stay closer to the pace in the July Cup. Equiano and Alverta came out of the gate with a blistering pace. With Starspangledbanner right there as well. Kinsale King broke well, and stayed with the pace makers for a time. But faded badly in the last 2 furlongs of the race. On a side note. Starspangledbanner's jockey, Johnny Murtagh, was given a 6 day suspension for a maneuver he used in the race. Bringing Starspangledbanner across the field out of post position 11 all the way over to the inside rail. The six day suspension will now keep Johnny Murtagh from being able to ride in July 24th's King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Murtagh was likely to be the jockey for Dante Stakes and Irish Derby winning colt, Cape Blanco in the race.
  • Mike99 · Hi from Australia. I watched last night and thought Kinsale King would be the main danger along with the other Aussie Alverta, which I knew would improve. But he faded at the end, which was a bit out of character for him the way he has been going. You know they should consider bringing him down to Australia. There are a couple of nice races down the straight 6 furlong course at Flemington. Kinsale King would be suited by our tracks which are fast and flat, unlike the UK courses which can be quite testing and can explain why some horses don't back up all that well over there after a tough run. Love to see Kinsale come to Oz, I think it would be great for world racing. And my long range tip - watch for Starspangledbanner to step up to a mile real soon - I would love to see that!! · 1048 days ago ·

  • medlocke · Mike99, I don't think there's any question about the fact that Kinsale King is the best 6 furlong sprinter from America. I also agree with you that it was a bit out of character for Kinsale King to fade the way he did in the July Cup. His connections had told Kieren Fallon to keep Kinsale King closer to the pace in the July Cup. The early blistering pace that Equiano, Alverta, and Starspangledbanner went off at was what sunk Kinsale King. The only problem I would have with Kinsale King going "down under" to race against Australia's best is that all of those races are on turf as well. Kinsale King, without question, does his best sprinting over synthetic track surfaces. As he looked winning the Vernon O. Underwood Stakes at Hollywood Park and the Golden Shaheen at Meydan during the carnival in Dubai. · 1048 days ago ·
