  • travel_vic · Dead heats are rare enough but a triple is pure random luck...The placing judges are very particular on calling a dead heat and often have the image enlarged and reduced multiple times before calling one (unless it is for 8th or something and does nor represent a parimutuel payout). They are often sticklers for the photo representation as well because SOME photos, where the two horses are not close to one another (one in lane one and the other in lane 6 or so) are VERY HARD to represent. Twice in my five year career as photo finish tech, we have had owners request a direct viewing of the photos right off the computer as they were not convinced...Remember anyway, that according to the rules of racing the judges evaluation IS FINAL. · 131 days ago ·
Over the last couple of months, one freshman sire has quietly racked up three winners from twelve starters, two of whom have placed in a listed and graded stakes. • AmbitiousD · Awesome analysis, Laurie. Henrythenavigator's babies are ones I have been excited about for some time. Its funny that you mention he should produce good dirt runners from strong dirt influenced distaff lines. There are a few new high successful dirt winning broodmares that quickly come to mind :) · 661 days ago ·
The betting odds are sure to be tight when it comes to the “big three” in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes. Of course, I am speaking of Kentucky Derby winner, Animal Kingdom, runner-up, Nehro, and Preakness victor, Shackleford. Read More

  • 12thCrown · This outcome is a fresh dose of reality that in horse racing, there are no locks! (especially for younger horses) · 1041 days ago ·
  • xMystix · 12thCrown, so true! That's why I don't go out of my way to talk about Horse of the Year and Three-Year-Old Champion honors and bestow them on horses that have't raced all year to prove themselves. There is no sure lock for either. After all, we are only half way through the year. · 1041 days ago ·
Where to begin? To say this week has been a busy one news-wise for horse racing would be an understatement. Beginning last weekend with the death of jockey Mark Anthony Villa at Zia Park, it’s been a mostly unsettling week. The announcement of Real Quiet’s tragic accident was quickly overshadowed by...Read More

"I've never seen anything like this," said Holly Bandoroff of Denali Stud of a bizarre incident that involved a well-bred dark bay or brown filly, a bald man in a plaid shirt, at least three Fasig-Tipton officials, and several policemen during the second and final session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratog...Read More

8/21/2007 By Tom Pedulla, USA TODAY Student Council pulled a stunning upset against heavily-favored Lava Man in the $1 million Pacific Classic on Sunday in a perplexing result that appeared to reflect more on Del Mar's new Polytrack surface than on the ability of the horses.Read More
