As I anxiously await the moment I meet my favorite racehorse of all time Rachel Alexandra, I am thinking of what retirement means to the other horses. I have no doubt that my queen is enjoying her kingdom and quite comfortable in her new digs at Stonestreet, but what exactly happens after racing for...Read More

The inclination to want to beat the favorite is a natural one. Most years on the Derby Trail, I happily fall into that pattern. Picking the Kentucky Derby favorite all spring is not nearly as much fun as tabbing a horse that is not so highly regarded. Some years though are different. The favorite is...Read More

  • LDP19 · I wonder why every horse can have a second chance but Mo. He was very under trained, and trained almost backwardsly. Pletcher revved him up for the wrong race then let him go with 2 easy half mile works in 4 weeks. The flip flop of venues was also not a fantastic decision. Mike made a mistake there, but everyone makes a few. Mo did not fold like a weak tent, in fact he fought pretty hard even though he, IMO did not look comfortable over that track. · 1105 days ago ·

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, it’s not Christmas, it’s the road to the roses. It is the time of the year that everyone is talking about the first Saturday in May and who is going to make it there. This is my first real experience with following Derby bound horses. Read More
What is up with all of Steve's nice horses getting hurt??
Wine Police breezed four furlongs on the Oklahoma Training Track in 50.50 seconds Wednesday morning, his final major workout in the lead up to Monday’s Grade 1 Three Chimneys Hopeful.   “It was smooth as glass,” trainer Steve Asmussen said of the workout. “All systems are go.”   The Hopef...Read More

  • markinsac · Honey, his 5th leg is in great shape. He'll be a force at stud. He'll be bred to a bunch of "cougars" of course! · 1326 days ago ·

  • medlocke · I feel awfully bad for Kantharos. This colt looked to have a world of talent. But no sympathy for the devil in his connections. Jackson and Asmussen are running one of the worst racing operations I've ever seen in racing, and I'm a 50 yr.old man that has followed racing all the way back to Secretariat in 73'. Sadly, they would've likely ran this colt into the ground as well. Because they've already taken what could've been one of racings better fillies ever. And made turned her into a "one year wonder." Ego and vanity is what drives this racing operation. Not horsemanship. · 1326 days ago ·

Zenyatta once again tops Horse Racing Nation's Fan Power Rankings with Quality Road and Blame were second and third. Very impressive. I look forward to his 3yo career.
this horse is the shit. if he stays healthy, he Will win the TC. I'm calling it now.
Well i sure hope he wins the triple crown. Horse racing needs the win. A horse needs to end it in 2011 or i dont think a horse will ever win the TC ever again or in a long time.
Zenyatta topped the first weekly snapshot of the HRN Active Power Rankings on Tuesday, August 24. She was followed by Quality Road in second, with Blame in third just slightly ahead of Rachel Alexandra. Lookin at Lucky rounded out the top five. Read More

We’re a bit more than halfway through the 2010 Saratoga meet with 22 of 40 days in the books.  Now’s a good time to look back at some of the best of what we’ve seen and also the worst.  Here are my thoughts: BEST Trainer – Even if he goes winless over the next 18 days (and that’s unlikely)...Read More
